That's no way for a biographical article to start. Is this person notable because he's a novelist, a politician, a theologian, a chemist, an entrepreneur, a porn star, .... ??? We should be given that information in the first sentence (usually), and we certainly shouldn't be expected to go to another paragraph telling us where he was educated before we even know the answer to that question. What notable thing has he achieved to appear in the encyclopedia? - alex

Contest speedy deletion
[edit]This article was proposed for deletion on the grounds that it does not state the notability of the subject. The article clearly states that the subject competed in the 2004 Olympics on the UK wrestling team (the only wrestler to represent the UK, in fact). He also competed in a number of World Championships. Judging by the comment on the proposed deletion template, the proposer considered the subject a non-notable mathematician. Perhaps so. I contest that the subject is notable as an Olympian. --Oldak Quill 01:13, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- From Notability/People and WP:ATH "A person is generally notable if they meet any of the following standards. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included." (emphasis added). So, I interpret this thusly: merely being an Olympic athlete, even the sole competitor for the UK in Wrestling is not sufficient grounds for notability. But, we'll let an AfD decide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.139.35.97 (talk) 05:40, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Apparently unable to complete AfD; hopefully another editor who agrees with the absurdity of this claim to 'notability' will complete the process. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.139.35.97 (talk) 05:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
IAT Wrestling Database
[edit]The IAT Wrestling Database contains statistics on Ackerman, Nathaniel Leedom. These statistics are currently cited as a source for Ackerman's participation in various World Championship events. Unfortunately, the database seems to use server-side sorting so that it is not possible to link directly to the information on Ackerman. The current link goes to the main page, from where one must search for Ackerman. Does anyone know a work-around for this situation? Or should we remove the link, or just leave it as-is?
