To clarify a prevalent misspelling
[edit]The correct spelling of her paternal family surname is, and always has been, Zacharenko (with a "c", not a "k"). It's corroborated by immigration, marriage, and birth records. See, for example, Natalie's paternal grandmother's petition for naturalization[1] and her parents' marriage registration,[2] as well as the birth registrations for her paternal first cousin Kaisa[3] and paternal first cousin once removed Karolyn.[4] The widely propagated misspelled version ("Zakharenko") stems from Suzanne Finstad's 2001 book. No press articles prior to 2001 about Natalie Wood or her sister Lana ever contained the misspelling "Zakharenko"; it was always Zacharenko. For further evidence, see their parents' engagement announcement.[5] Ieonine (talk) 05:20, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
