Achrafieh a suburb?!

[edit]

It is erroneous to say that Achrafieh is a suburb of Beirut, when we all know that A- It's part of Beirut and constitutes half of it, and B-According to the history of the city, Beirut started in the region that is now Achrafieh and then grew to include the Ras-Beirut area.....So please do change that part right away. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peerless (talkcontribs)

Where did you get the info about platinum and gold certifications?? I thought they don't have that in the Middle East —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ps lebbo (talkcontribs)

Just now reverted out some text from a non-fan -- yes, she's controversial, but let's keep POV material on the Talk page!

Promotional Picture Needed

[edit]

I think the picture of a magazine cover is not quite appropriate, of course the purpose is just to show who is the artist, but a better promotional fair use picture can be used. I will try to upload a proper promo photo Omernos

Hi, I was just wondering, what is your source for Nancy's album/singles sales and performance? Article

There is an article called The Greatest Hits (Nancy Ajram) that asserts that she will be releasing a greatest hits album in 2007. It also lists a possible track list for the album. Does anyone know anything about this or is this a hoax? Metros232 14:51, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's absolutely a hoax, no official statements have been done either by Nancy or Jiji Lamara. So I think it's inappropriate to just put it up assuming it's real. Omernos 16:35, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've nominated the article for deletion. Thanks. 18:25, 4 June 2006 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metros232 (talkcontribs)

ya tabtab... w dallah

[edit]

i noticed that next to all of her song titles that there are translations of what the titles mean in arabic, but ya tabtab... w dallah does not have a translation. just do it ne? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.21.228 (talkcontribs)

It's rather hard to translate the song's title, because translating it word by word won't make a sense. But it basically means "I Either Pat & Spoil" - I hope it makes sense, I'd edit it then. -- Omernos 03:16, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coca Cola NOT Pepsi!!!

[edit]

There is a simple mistake in the article which I bolded:

"After a significant period of starring in Pepsi commercials Ajram went back to record her next album Ya Tabtab which was released in early 2006 aided by the title track as the lead single." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rabrab (talkcontribs)

It was Coca Cola —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.213.189.104 (talkcontribs)

Plastic Surgery

[edit]

It seems to me like Nancy Agram (Egyptian pronunciation:) looks different every time I see her, and that her nose and her cheeks just...aren't right. To the best of anyone's knowledge, has she had any plastic surgery done? People out here sure seem to think so, and it seems like that might be worth mentioning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thrugbhat (talkcontribs)

I think she did undergo plastic sugery, at least once. The article is a mess, no references, needs wikifying and cleanup. I might work on it someday. An oh, people, sign your comments (~~~~). ANAS - Talk 12:36, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah She had Platic Surgery and its secret video is in market, one of my friend shown it to me.

What IS her religion???? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.28.66.148 (talkcontribs)

And would people stop going about her religion who cares if she Christian or Muslim its the music that counts I want it deleted if everyone want to now that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.213.189.104 (talkcontribs) She has apparently admitted to having a nose-job done, which can be easily verified by looking at a picture of her from before she was famous. Funkynusayri 19:43, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, lots of sites claim she did have cosmetic surgery, including this one where she supposedly admits it:

Christian

[edit]

Since when is Ajram a Christian. All we have been hearing is that she's a MUSLIM and not a Christian despite her name so stop it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.203.126.238 (talkcontribs)

Do you have the right to ask such a question Enter the chicken

Nancy is Chirstian every buddy knows this Khalidkhoso 06:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the Lebanese conditions so well, but it MUST be possible to find out whether a person is Christian or Muslim. Somebody who attended school with her must know it or neighbours, somebody somewhere. EVERYBODY'S CONTRADICTING EACH OTHER ABOUT THIS QUESTION. THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE. (btw, this is an important question, maybe not even because it matters really, but because so many people are doubting and disputing about it)

- Lebanese_Lover writes: This is ridiculous: she is Christian and that's the fact. Do you think a Muslim of Lebanese origin would go around with a name like Nancy??! people who think otherwise including the ones who logged here to make ridiculous claims are simply wasting time and should grow up. Plus did you check her mother's name: typical orthodox Christian. I'll tell you what kind of people wish to hide or twist her religion: it is the kind of people who want censuses blocked in Lebanon and it is these kind of people who do not want the aspirations of the majority of Lebanese to be fulfilled (that's why they don't want a census in Lebanon becasue they want the French-dictated "Constitution" from decades ago to continue - hardly democratic on their part to give a minority (or dare I say maronite!) community de facto privileges; but oh well, c'est la vie). Anyway, to the person who says they've been "hearing" that she is Muslim, wake up and stop clouding issues unnecessarily.

Maybe she is both: christian and muslim? Thats help sell her music. But if she singing during ramadan, i think she must be christian. --85.253.60.160 (talk) 23:56, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If her mother's last name is Aoun and she comes from Ashrafieh, then she's Christian beyond much doubt. But anyhow, we need relibable sources stating it if anything like that is to be included. FunkMonk (talk) 00:04, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Origins and religion

[edit]

Both seem to be of great interest to some fans. However, in adding either birthplace or faith, please remember that it will require citation to a reliable source. This does not include fansites, sites that mirror WP content (and have picked up their information from past versions of the articles), or even other-language versions of WP, unless they are fully cited/referenced. No reason that either shouldn't be in the article, but they should be verifiable to a source. The whole faith thing, though, would likely need some clarification or context; she is not a "Christian singer" in the sense that is generally used in the West. Robertissimo 05:16, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • DISPUTING this rationale - A well informed Lebanese, not someone from Adis Ababa or Oman, would know that Nancy Ajram was born in Achrafieh, a Christian Section of East Beirut. [1]. Just as much as much as a well informed American, or more correctly, a Canadian, would know that the great singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen is a Jew.... Some people in Wikipedia should understand that Lebanon is a small country with limited internet sources and resources let alone biographical websites a la "Biography.com". Even though Nancy is well known in the Middle East, no one other than the Lebanese would know her roots... Just as much as we ALL know that the origins of the Gemayel family is Christian from Bickfayya... Lcnj 08:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a well-sourced citation to Ajram's birthplace. "we ALL know" doesn't meet WP:FS; Gulf News does. Robertissimo 09:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes! Many apologies for the typo -- I of course meant WP:RS -- an excellent guide for us all, especially in tandem with WP's policy on verifiability. Robertissimo 10:09, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • GOOD!... Apologies accepted... but PLEASE... Give artciles about third countries, in particularly Lebanon, the assumption of good faith even without sources. I know that many Lebanese Editors will come to Wikipedia in GOOD FAITH... and will be very discouraged by such unnecessary and time consuming disputes of facts that are well known to them... Would YOU dispute that the Gemayel family is a Christian family from Bickfaya??? Well... No informed Lebanese ever would dispute that fact!... Anyway, with whom, in Wikipedia, is this very delicate and hard to fathom exception to Wikipedia's Policy be best addressed with for speedy consideration and inclusion in the Policy? Serious Sex Discrimination issue - Reference to sex kitten

[edit]

I would like to see the "She has been described as "that most effervescent of Arab sex kittens."[1]" REMOVED... Not only is it superfluous, it is flagrantly a male "prejudiced" statement. 09:46, 23 November 2006 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lcnj (talkcontribs)

I don't feel that strongly about it one way or the other. I thought it useful to have a well-sourced, brief description of Ajram's public persona at the end of the intro, and thought that the LATimes phrase was apt. FWIW, the article is written by a female journalist. Robertissimo 19:22, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
1. I disagree with the Editor who removed the sex kitten comment without your authoriazation. 2. I disagree with your leaving this disputed phrases while it is in dispute. The right thing to do is to REMOVE it until we reach consensus on its inclusion. 3. Whether it is written by a female or not, it is still a male chauvinistic statement and it tarnishes ALL the value, voice capability, showmanship, beauty, quality and class that Nancy brings to the Lebanese song...and reduces her to a sex object. Would you like your own mother or daughter to be reduced to a sex kitten when she has so much talent?. Lcnj 01:46, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey i have some translated version of her songs, I want to add those if any one have objection please lemme know, beacuse after 2 days of this post i will add it. and i have list of her full songs that she sung. I want to add that too ? any one have objection lemme know, or help me what to DO.

Our Nancy Ajram Club & forums has been the biggest resource for two years now and is getting bigger and bigger with each passing day.

Hi Unknown Love, welcome to the 'pedia. Although I find your website to be quite comprehensive, I'd have to turn down your request. According to our policy of external links, it is not favorable to link to websites like Nancy Ajram Club. First of all, your website contains a lot of copyrighted material used in violation, which according to Wikipedia:Copyright makes it forbidden to be linked to. It also doesn't provide any more services (legitimate material) to our readers more than Nancy's official website. It would be considered spamming to link Nancy's article to your website. I'm sorry, and I hope you understand. Thank you. - Anas Talk? 17:24, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anas, I posted this request long time ago when your policy of external links was not applied yet, or at least not on this topic. There were some external links that were not very much useful, if I may say.
With all due respect, I think that YouTube contains a lot of copyrighted material used in violation too, which according to "Wikipedia:Copyright" makes it also forbidden to be linked to. - UnknownLove 19:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A policy is adopted automatically in every article and we don't need to "apply" it in each article by itself. As for linking to YouTube, you got that right, it is forbidden to link to a YouTube video if the video linked is a copyvio (copyright violation). Thank you and happy editing. :-) - Anas Talk? 13:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictions??

[edit]

The article acknowledges that her first two albums (Mihtagalak and Sheil 'Ayounak...) tanked and then it says under her credentials that "Currently, Nancy Ajram is the only Arabic female artist in history to have her first three albums debut at number one", Im guessing referring to her last three. So...are those stats false, or do Mihtagalak and Sheil Ayounak Anni not count as her debut albums??? Someone plz explain 67.169.206.46 22:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Albums

[edit]

Where are the pages for the other albums??!! There are only pages about two albums. It'd be good to know about the other albums in more details. - UnknownLove 12:42, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you can help create them, eh? Wikipedia is not as complete as you think. :-) - Anas talk? 12:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fake official website of Nancy Ajram created by a hacker

[edit]

A nasty person (may be a hacker) has maid a fake official site of Nancy at: http://www.nancyajram.com

while as mentioned in this article her true official website is: http://www.nancyajramonline.com/

The fake website can distinguish IP addresses of users in Iran and redirects them to : http://www.nancyajram.com/ban/blocked.htm where some swear words are said to Iranians. Iranians are receiving many emails in which the fake website has been given as the official website of Nancy Ajram and asks people to forward the emails to all people that they know! The other nasty thing: In the fake site there is a Guess book with many offensive word to Iranians and Arabs, but when you try to post any message to inform people that this site is fake, you got an error (this means that the swear words has been written by the hacker itself not any real user). Nancy Ajram has many fans in Iran, It seems the hacker tries to make Arabs and Iraninans against each other. Goleyax 10:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So that's why some anons were vandalizing the article. If this was to be verified somehow, we can insert this piece of information to the article. —Anas talk? 11:07, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A response to the hacked page is on her actual official website with the following message:

This is from http://www.nancyajramonline.com/, under the News section, but I have no idea how to link to the News section in specific. WHOIS and other evidence suggests that it is indeed the true official homepage of Nancy Ajram.
Perhaps we can just mention the News section in the reference and add this information to the article. It would help to stop the angry people from showing up as well as work against the hackers. I can do it if you all think it is a good idea. The Behnam 20:21, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that's a good idea, The Behnam. —Anas talk? 20:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm thinking of one-three sentences explaining the situation in a section after "Achievements," but I'm not sure what is the best way to put this. Perhaps "Official website controversy?" Or is that too controversial? The Behnam 23:03, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The biography is missing a lot of information, so I think a "Controversy" title would be best, in order to leave room for other additions. Don't forget to source your additions! Thanks, Anas talk? 11:01, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Feel free to tweak as you see fit and add more good sources as you come across them - it is hard to find non-blog/forum information about this kind of incident. Hopefully putting this information in the article will help prevent further angry vandalism. The Behnam 23:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2007 "live album"

[edit]

I guess this is a HOAX? No trace of that "album" anywhere, and we're in 2008 now! If you do not give evidence that this album actually does exist, I will remove the entry from the discography! -andy 85.179.207.248 (talk) 03:41, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IMPORTANT: What is her official web site? nancyajram[-]online.com?

[edit]

Yes, it is the hyphen which makes the difference! http://www.nancyajramonline.com AND http://www.nancyajram-online.com - both exist! The former is Flash-only, and the latter is also possible to view without Flash! The latter has lyrics of her songs, while the former has not! What a confusion!! -andy 85.179.207.248 (talk) 16:45, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage / Descent

[edit]

Although Nancy Ajram was born in Lebanon, it is believed that Nancy has Iran-Armenian family or at least heritage. Armenians occupy a lot of Lebanon, making it the second largest Armenian populated country (After Armenia, of course). Some sources claim that her family are also one of those from that have migrated from Armenia and Modern Day Iran. Nancy also sings a small section of an Armenian song (Garun E) on television. And her grandmother is also said to be Armenian. Please place embed this fact into her Wikipedia Page.
