- Whether or not he is notable as a scholar, per WP:POLITICIAN #1 he is certainly notable as a government minister. JohnCD (talk) 11:05, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because he is a Government Minister in Libya. That alone means he is notable. Also, the article has plenty of sources indicating that he has worked on some fairly high level stuff for the DoE. — Jeancey (talk) 06:44, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
That is not true - not all ministers are considered notable. Then we will have thousands of them — his name can be mentioned in the list of ministers of post-Ghaddafi's transition government but definitely his biography does not contribute to public knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.152.214.234 (talk) 21:39, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that he isn't some minister of a small division of the government. He is essentially in charge of all the universities in Libya, both the education aspect and the research being done there. That's a pretty big deal. Jeancey (talk) 22:39, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
The entire country has a total population of 7-8 million. There are only 5 to 6 major higher education institutes in Libya (look at Wikipedia entry on that) none of them ranking among top research institutes in the world - scientific research in Libya is by no means outstanding — I think this is entirely driven by passion to believe that the minister of Education in Libya is a very important person and beyond that to believe that his biography should be on a public global encyclopedia — who knows who is the minister of Education in so many other countries that are probably way more populous and more important than Libya in terms of higher education and scientific research? You are not being objective. I think the deletion case should be escalated to a higher level editor to make a decision about it. I don't believe this entry also follows general notability guidelines. I think it is best if the entry is merged with Cabinet of Libya or moved to Wiki Libya Project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.152.214.234 (talk) 03:40, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Mark for deletion was removed without having solved the contestation. No resolution was given here either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.152.214.234 (talk) 07:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- It was discussed, and closed as keep. I don't understand what's wrong. The consensus of the discussion was that he is notable enough, so Keep. Jeancey (talk) 07:20, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
