Pronunciation of "Burnyeat"
[edit]Can somebody please indicate precisely how this particular man chose to pronounce his family name -- its pronunciation is not obvious from its spelling. Thank you 129.94.6.28 17:50, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know IPA but think MB pronounces it Burn-ee-at. 131.111.8.96 10:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- When I attended his lectures in the early 1980s, he was referred to within the Cambridge Classics faculty with the pronunciation above.

- No, it's BURN-yate. You can hear it in some old interviews. 98.115.255.240 (talk) 14:27, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- Surprised at that. Like The Sage of Stamford I only heard Burn-ee-at in Cambridge. Dsp13 (talk) 01:21, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
