Article for Meghan

I'm sure there's more but currently a bit overloaded: we should be able to build a standalone article for Meghan McCarthy , based on this news [1]. --MASEM (t) 18:28, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

There's only an audio commentary on two of the three Equestria Girls movies in the box set and the box set is the same movie as far as case and disk as some of the movies out there but some have extra stuff in the like a wrist band in one of the rainbow rocks movie dvd's. But Equestria Girls (one) doesn't have an audio commentary It's on the main page, It's URL is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Little_Pony:_Friendship_Is_Magic want too change "Audio commentary on all three films" to "Audio commentary on "Raiinbow Rocks and Friendship Games"" Just so I'm more specific for Allthefoxes this is the exact change! Proposed merge with My Little Pony (2017 film)

Article merged.

We're still over a year and a half out until My Little Pony (2017 film)'s scheduled release date. Although I believe that this subject will almost definitely merit an article in the future, at this time, it is too soon. WP:NFF states that In the case of animated films, reliable sources must confirm that the film is clearly out of the pre-production process, meaning that the final animation frames are actively being drawn and/or rendered, and final recordings of voice-overs and music have commenced. There is no verification in reliable sources of that any of these notability indicators are met. All verifiable information can, for the time being, be adequately presented entirely in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic's "Feature film" section. The goal is to make the encyclopedia more useful for readers by consolidating all verifiable information in one place and with appropriate context. Currently, the standalone film article doesn't really say much about its subject beyond what is already stated here. Mz7 (talk) 19:11, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

I would support this. We know it's still in production, so it is far too early per FILM. --MASEM (t) 02:55, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
I second the merge. User:SubZeroSilver (talk) 23:38, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Done. Thanks for the support. I have now merged all non-redundant verifiable content into the section and turned My Little Pony (2017 film) into a redirect. There honestly wasn't that much to add—feel free to merge more if you feel I've missed something. I left out a bit of information about an actress named Emily Blunt supposedly being a voice in the movie, since the info didn't appear to be cited. Mz7 (talk) 20:15, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

What If question: MLP for theme parks

Editing new draft for My Little Pony: The Movie (2017 film)

While it may still be too soon to recreate the article, I've happened upon a draft for My Little Pony: The Movie that is currently under review, created by one Animation100. It would be a great help to contribute towards editing it and getting it up to shape for when the time comes. Parts that could use some attention would be the lead section and the Production section. User:SubZeroSilver (talk) 19:45, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Proof

here's one of my sources. https://twitter.com/MatthewSephton1/status/793972126613209088 And here's another. https://twitter.com/MatthewSephton1/status/793969426475417601?lang=en

the reason why I'm presenting them like this is because Jim Miller has made his messages private, only those who follow him can see them. So I've had to improvise. Hopefully this is more than enough to prove my words. Also, I went to HMV and it was in the Family Film & TV section, I know its not helpful to prove this, but its just something I think you should know. - 00:20, 3 November 2016‎ Frontdoor6

Not a reliable source. Also nowhere is it written that we are talking about the MLP: FiM. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. In addition, the copyright holder Hasbro Studios doesn't think so. Federal Chancellor (NightShadow) (talk) 07:14, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

How can it be an unreliable source? It's from Jim Miller himself. Plus, the target only shows what the show is supposed to appeal to, not who its made for. But what would work as a suitable source? If I get a proper clarified source where Jim Miller confirms that MLP FIM is a family show and that Hasbro agrees, will that be suitable? - 18:50, 6 November 2016 Frontdoor6

What show is this? There is not written. Your screenshots are not reliable sources. Federal Chancellor (NightShadow) (talk) 22:37, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Ok, i'll get Jim Miller or Meghan McCarthy to clarify it and then we'll sort this out, ok? is this good enough? Its from Lauren Faust. https://twitter.com/Fyre_flye/status/795410860030062592?lang=en — 23:53, 6 November 2016 Frontdoor6

"I don't know...?" Federal Chancellor (NightShadow) (talk) 05:05, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

MLP is NOT a children's show

I've noticed that, since early 2015, the show has been tagged as a children's show, which may imply that it is a preschool show, which we all know its definitely not. Lauren Faust created the show to appeal to everyone, she confirmed this herself and the show staff aim to keep it that way, despite the target audience. We know Hasbro states it targeted at girls 4-7, but this dose not imply that it's anything less than a family show. Here are some facts to prove this.

- Jim Miller confirmed that he and the show staff make the show for girls 6-12, Meghan McCarthy is a member of the show staff and she also works at Hasbro, yet she continues to make the show for families to enjoy.

- In the US, the shows birth country, it airs on a channel for families.

- In the Hasbro Studios site, MLP is not among the Preschool shows.

- Many show staff members, such as Jim Miller, Nick Confalone and M.A.Larson have confirmed that it is a family show.

If you require sources, let me know.

Hasbro targeting the show at girls 4-7 does not imply that it isn't a family show. So I suggest we either remove the 'children's television show' tag, replace it with family, or add in both so it says family/children.

thank you for your time. 13:53, 25 November 2016 Frontdoor6

A children's show is a term for any show that is primarily marketed and broadcasted to reach younger audiences (typically 15 and younger), which MLPFIM definitely is. There actually isn't a classification like that for "family show", whereas most people take that a family show is a children's show that does also try to appeal to adults. --MASEM (t) 16:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for replying and it helps, but MLP is a kids show that tried to appeal to adults. Lauren created it for girls AND their parents. They even said they add in jokes and references to appeal to both themselves and the parents of the audience. Otherwise, why would it appeal to so many adult fans? Frontdoor6

No, you're missing the point. To classify the show on WP, we have a limited number of terms (like "sitcom", "drama", "documentary", "reality show", and in this case "children's show". There's no classification of "family show", but instead we call shows that are broadcasted for children even if written with all ages audiences in mind, like MLP, still fall into "children's show", because we lack anything more specific. --MASEM (t) 19:07, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

But why aren't shows such as Powerpuff Girls and Ed Edd n Eddy classified as children's show? Shows like that are in the '15 or under' demographic? Alos, are we sure the Hasbro Studios site is still accurate? It hasn't been attended to since 2014 and it still says the shows has been in production from 2010 to 2014, even though its still going into 2017 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frontdoor6 (talkcontribs) 23:04, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Despite all this, no one can deny that its a show made for everyone of all ages. That's what Lauren set out to achieve and its what the creators and Hasbro aim to keep up, even with the target demographic. If we can agree on that at least, it would work for me. Frontdoor6

The intent certainly is for an all-ages show, but for purposes of putting it into the limited number of pigeonholes of show genres that exist for television, there does not exist a "family show" slot, and Hasbro feels it better fits into the children's animation slot rather than general animation slot. We can't change or deny that. We can talk how the producers have ignored that designation to make the best all-ages show they can, but that doesn't change the lack of appropriate slots for classification. --MASEM (t) 14:47, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

I've looked at both the Hasbro Studies and DHX site and they both say MLP is NOT a pre-school show, but why dose it air in places like the UK and Canada on pre-school channels? It used to air on Boomerang, but it was changed in 2012. Is this because those channels paid the most money for them? I'm not saying that you're saying its a pre-school show, its just been bothering me for some time.

Also, are you suggesting confirmations made by show staff are invalid? Like when Meghan McCarthy announced the EG series was canon to the show? Or do you mean they're invalid only for this topic? Frontdoor6

The show staff have no input on the decisions of the network(s) of how they treat the show in terms of its classification. Hasbro owns the show fully, so how the staff feel about it has no merit on how Hasbro chooses to categorize it. The staff's input on how they try to make it a all-ages show is still appropriate to include in describing the creative process, but it doesn't work on how the show is categorized for advertizers, govt' regulations, and so on. --MASEM (t) 14:44, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

But when show staff confirm things like the character's age or if the EG series is canon or anything else story-wise, does it count as valid information? Also, aside from that. Despite all this, in your personal opinion, do you see MLP as a general show like many other fans like me do? Frontdoor6

Hasbro owns the show. What they say is the final word. The staff and many fans feel it is an all-ages show, but that's not a category available for classification of television shows. --MASEM (t) 07:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Distribution, International section

As noted, information about any broadcasts other than English is apparently not allowed. But I disagree with this, and think that it should be done similarly to here, where there's no table or a list of a thousand languages – but rather information on when the series debuted on a channel (kind of like it is now). I'll help out with it if anyone agrees, but I just want to hear your thoughts on the matter. Palettepony895 (talk) 01:28, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Refs to refs

If you look at the reference section at the bottom, you might note a reference in red, denoting an error.

The problem is that the table called "Season Overview" is being pulled from a detail page (a list of episodes), and while most of the information in that table is self-contained, there is a reference pointer to a reference defined in the previous section of the detail page.

The big problem is that the logic allows this to happen, but it does raise a question: How useful is the table, which is a list of seasons without too much detail beyond number of episodes?

I'd suggest the table reference for Season Overview be removed, it'll be seen in the List of Episodes page cited right above it.

Various products and marketing materials has been hinting it for a while, but Hasbro has been indeed phasing out the original pink-on-white My Little Pony G4 logo in favour of a new white-on-purple My Little Pony G4 logo, and the new season seven introduction made it clear the early pink-coloured G4 2010-2016 logo has been officially deprecated in favour of the new purple-coloured one. This article should reflect the new change. Hope(N Forever) (talk) 07:23, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

In case you want to change the logo quickly, I found an SVG copy of the new logo from the Logopedia on Wikia here. Hope(N Forever) (talk) 07:44, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

@Pure conSouls: I see you've changed the logo to File:My Little Pony G4 logo.svg. The problem is that the old logo has a Friendship is Magic text on it. So I think we'll have to wait for the similar logo with the text.--Eflyjason (talk) 13:31, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Should we add Wikipedia pages for each of The Mane Six because, these characters have been very popular ever since the show started. 207.172.180.75 (talk) 00:50, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

No. The current coverage is fine where it is now. —C.Fred (talk) 00:53, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

I don't think that is should be place in the Category:Television series based on Greco-Roman mythology. Just because some Pegasi appear in it, the show as a whole is not base on Greco-Roman mythology. Gial Ackbar (talk) 17:10, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Fully agreed. Categories like this should not just include any show/work just because they happen to touch on the theme of the category; that theme should be central to the show's premise (eg either the live action or animated Hercules shows qualify easily.) --Masem (t) 17:21, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

It features pegasi, minotaurs, the chimera, Cerberus, the Underworld is depicted as Tartarus. It goes beyond a few mentions here and there. Dimadick (talk) 17:25, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

It has those features, but it is not based on mythology. That's not a central feature of the show. --Masem (t) 17:27, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
(After edit conflict) It uses elements of it. Everyone would agree with that. But those are generic fantasy themes that appeare in hundrets of works. It is not defining for MLP. Gial Ackbar (talk) 17:28, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
Those hundreds of works are mostly derived from Greco-Roman mythology as well, with depictions of characters and places from classical works in more recent fiction. Exactly what we should be covering in a "based on" category. Dimadick (talk) 17:33, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
When you say "based on" that means the show was planned to draw all these elements from the mythology side. While I can assert that the MLP showrunners have pulled certain mythos elements, the show was not wholly based on it. It uses elements of mythology, but that's not what the category is named. --Masem (t) 17:40, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

The Mane Six also face several antagonists; one of them, the chimera-like trickster Discord (John de Lancie), is introduced in the two-part season two premiere episode "The Return of Harmony" and, after reforming in the season three episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On", subsequently becomes a recurring character of the show.[1][2]

False Information on Discovery Family's page

Recently, the article for Discovery Family, (The network that airs MLP:FIM.) has had the dates of events such as channel rebrands changed to false dates. This appears to be part of a larger series of vandalism on the articles of preschool shows and channels. Some examples include the launch date of Discovery Kids being moved back form October 7, 1996, to October 5, 1996, The Hub's launch date being moved from October 10, 2010, to October 16, 2010, and the date of the announcement of Discovery Family replacing Hub Network being moved up from September 25, 2014, to September 27, 2014. Another issue that, due to being a small, one off issue, I've already fixed is the target audience of Discovery Kids being moved from the official 6-11, to 13-19. The other issues are sprinkled throughout the article and I can't fix them alone. I posted it on the talk page of Discovery Family yesterday, and not received a single response. Therefore, I have turned to here to see if we can fix that article as a community effort. 24.198.169.196 (talk) 01:53, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

In the first opening paragraphs of this article, lead character Twilight Sparkle is said to be anthropomorphic-- I don't think that this is the case! "Anthropomorphic" animal characters are supposed to walk around on their hind legs and act explicitly human, like Disney's Robin Hood. While the characters in this show have an advanced functioning society, they do not move around like humans or have the features that traditionally anthropomorphized animal characters usually have, such as clothes, fingers, and so forth. "Anthropomorphic" means "to give human like characteristics to non-human things". While that's more commonly associated with "walking like humans" it is not limited to that. "Lady and the Tramp" features anthropomorphic dogs- they visually have no human characteristics, but they speak and have feelings like humans. --Masem (t) 00:09, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

At the bottom of this article, it talks about the upcoming spin-off series, "Pony Life", but it claims that the series has been confirmed to air in 2020. This is not entirely true. Rumors speculate that the series as a whole has been canceled due to a lot of negative backlash from the fans. I would like to suggest maybe rewording this paragraph so that it sounds more accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1702:3A40:D2C0:D29:3FE9:2284:7E81 (talk) 00:12, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Please provided valid sourced and not just rumors. The given source states 2020 as release date. We would need a different source of equal or higher credibility to change that. Gial Ackbar (talk) 12:55, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

John DeLancie removal

@TucLen: has removed John DeLancie from the "Voices of" list in the Infobox, and I wanted to get some more feedback. The reasoning given was John de Lancie is not a main voice cast member. Discord is not a main character. This reasoning fails as the infobox is not limited to main cast. Discord is a major recurring character. If we are only keeping main cast in the infobox, we would also be removing Nicole Oliver (as Princess Celestia is a recurring role, not main cast), as well as Michelle Creber, Madeleine Peters and Claire Corlett, since the CMCs are not main cast members. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 15:09, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Both Celestia and the CMC appear in far, far more episodes than Discord does and have far more prominence in the overall show and franchise than him. We should keep the voice cast list short and concise, notice how we also don't have the likes of Kelly Sheridan, Peter New, or Britt McKillip there. TucLen (talk) 15:18, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Again, if the point is "main cast only" then we should reduce it to the main cast themselves. Shorter is probably better, as you point out. However, if we're going to keep non-main cast, I'd be open to expanding the list to other recurring roles, including Kelly Sheridan and others. Otherwise, we're going to be debating who is in "enough" episodes to qualify. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 16:50, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
So as not to open the floodgates of cluttering the list, then I would prefer to just shorten it to the main 5 voice actors who voice the 7 main characters. If we start adding voice actor after voice actor then it goes overboard. There's way too many performers for recurring/side characters in this show of similar importance besides Kelly and John. Andrew Francis, Brenda Crichlow, Chantal Strand, Kathleen Barr, etc. TucLen (talk) 17:00, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
I can agree with that, there's likely too many recurring roles to include them all, and trying to pick & choose will just be folks arguing for their favorites. Cutting down to just the main five sounds perfectly sensible to me. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 17:32, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

There are apparently going to be a series of shorts which are effectively clip shows with some new animation, not full episodes. Not officially released yet either, so let's hold off on any additions to the article. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 21:17, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Filipino?

Undid has recently been trying to add the show is Filipino due to the animation studio, Top Draw Animation, being in the Phillipines. I have to disagree as MOS:TVLEAD states it should be the country where principal creative control was exercised. I believe animation is not "principal creative control". Looking through Category:FA-Class Animated television articles, it shows the animation studio is not added in the series' nationality. Adventure Time states the series is American though the animation was done in South Korea as does Ed, Edd n Eddy which is Canadian-American and the animation is done in Korea. Other examples include Kampung Boy (TV series) and Animaniacs. Pamzeis (talk) 02:53, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Agreed. Principal creative control would be DHX, a Canadian company; with ultimate approval from Hasbro, an American company. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 16:41, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Proposed edit: Generation confusion/clarification

I'm no expert on the subject, but from what I've been able to gather, the "generation" system applies ONLY to the toy lines, NOT to the cartoons. This is only the third TV series, and the first two TV series (MLP and MLP Tales) were both made during the G1 era. Referring to the Friendship is Magic cartoon as "G4" incorrectly implies the existence of G2 and G3 TV shows, and therefore only confuses people rather than clarifying anything. I'd recommend instead saying that MLP:FIM "corresponds to" or "is based on" the fourth generation of the toy line.

Done, rearranged. Pamzeis (talk) 08:31, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
While it's true the generations only apply to toy lines, there were various direct-to-video releases tied to the G3 toys. While not a traditional series, those cartoons are generally referred to as G3 cartoons. That said, I agree with the new wording. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 15:50, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Splitting proposal

Currently, the tables for the home media section ≈ 50kB. They may get larger when more home media is released/more information becomes present. I propose the home media tables be split off into an article titled List of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic home video releases. Pamzeis (talk) 02:26, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

I'd Support that. Such large tables are just unwieldy in an article like this. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 17:11, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
