Pronunciation
[edit]It would be useful if someone who speaks Turkish could add the pronunciation of his name to the start of the article. --Anthrcer (click to talk to me) 06:47, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- We apparently have this. It is not really the way a native speaker would pronounce it though; it is too obviously a fairly good attempt by a foreigner. What would other users think about inserting it? --GGT (talk) 20:20, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, good lord, no—let's not have the blind leading the blind. The reader says [ˈɑːˌkʰɪnˌtʃɪ]. Not terrible, but clearly not right. Q·L·1968 ☿ 17:43, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @QuartierLatin1968: What would be the correct pronunciation in English? Alakzi (talk) 17:46, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- Well, it's not an English name; people would need to approximate the [ɯ] sound the best they can. Moreover, the c is [dʒ] not [tʃ]. A better approximation would be [ˈɑːkn̩dʒɤ], for those of us who have [ɤ] in our vowel inventory. Q·L·1968 ☿ 17:54, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I know how it's pronounced in Turkish. The question is whether there's a specific pronunciation that's dominant in English. If not, it's best not to include any English transcription or pronunciation audio file. Alakzi (talk) 18:04, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree! Q·L·1968 ☿ 22:37, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
