NOT a park
[edit]I removed the parks category as this is a management area, not a park, and while it includes parks, protected areas, and ecological preserves, it also includes development areas and areas of industrial planning, often overlapping with some of the parks; in particular this applies to mining and oil and gas development; see here for starters. The article has to have content on the parallel industrial-development areas built into the M-KMA, which is why it's called what it is and wasn't made just one big whooping park; a management area is so designated so as to exempt it from the protections of full-borne parks....towards that end a section on mineral and oil/gas exploration/development is needed as the article shouldn't just be about parks and protected areas...Skookum1 (talk) 13:29, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, but since the BC gov't is eager to burnish its protection creditials, that was the easiest info to find, so that's what I did first. The others will be more difficult, I encourage you to go ahead, but my attention span for these things is brief. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 04:35, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
"Constituent parts"
[edit]A quick look at the M-KMA website's maps will serve to show how much of the area is NOT park (over 50%); on the main maps there are four categories; parks/protected areas/ecological preserves, special management (zones), special wildlands (zone) and enchanced resource development (zone), each one having its own name, e.g. the Fox Special Management Zone, the Upper Akie Special Wildlands Zone. These should all be listed, if not actually linked (as they don't really need articles....maybe); the "consitutent parts" section title could be restored, but only if all these are included.Skookum1 (talk) 14:15, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- These are undoubtedly part of the M-KMA... just not all of them. Problem is the others don't have names and websites. That is a common problem is all land use-related articles on WP. Protection is well-documented by govts. Development is hidden. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 04:37, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well, they do have names as you can see on the map; and sometimes something is described there as a park or protected area e.g. Wokkpash, while at other times thinigs I know are parks - Horneline Creek Provincial Park are not shown (t's just NE of Denetiah Provincial Park.. The important thing is that this is not a park, though including some, in the same way that the Lower Mainland or the Kootenays include parks but aren't parks themselves. This is a type of Category:Administrative subidvisions of British Columbia and yes, yes, yes, the government is really good at hiding information by scattering it across all kinds of different jurisdictions and organizing bodies/agencies; divide and conquer. The Taku-Atlin MPA for instance includes information you wano't find on sites to do with the Stikine Region or even the Atlin or Cassiar Mining Districts. Most subareas of the M-KMA don't need subarticles; some may yet get them like the West Muskwa oil (or gas?) exploration area; and it may be that some of hte "Wildlands" merit attention; most of those can simply redirect to this article though, i.e. they can be search items but not enough exists about them to make an article...other than what's in the planning reports that led up to the creation of the MKMA.....I know the Nat'l Geog article mostly focussed on its wildland aspects, and taht there's very little in the way of easily-accessible materiasl on mineral claims and oil/gas exploration in this area (unless you're plugged into the corporate-oriented information services on some goevrnment websites). but a management area is an invention to bypass wholesale creation of parklands (which is what this once was, i.e. a vast park proposal....). Many of the regional management planning boards, such as Lillooet's have been stalemated for years and were designed to be so (IMO). Development information, of course, is not hte only thing this government is good at hiding, but I'll leave it at that for now.....Skookum1 (talk) 17:07, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
