Death of Phylicia BarnesMurder of Phylicia Barnes – When I created this article over a year ago, I gave it this target title, but for the second time, someone has renamed it to "Death of ..." This is a case that in every way has been viewed as a murder. Even before the victim's body was found, foul play was suspected. When the victim's body was found and autopsied, the cause of death was ruled a homicide[1]. It did take about a year following that for a suspect to be named, but what's more, the police have classified this case as a homicide and recently added it to their homicide count of the year the victim disappeared[2]. Common sense says that this case has all the makings of murder. Hellno2 (talk) 15:21, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong oppose A person is awaiting trial accused of murdering her, we don't know what line of defence he is going to employ e.g. self-defence, diminished responsibility. It would be a serious BLP violation, and create legal problems for Wikipedia, if we carried out this move. I suggest this should be speedily rejected. • Strong oppose per PatGallacher. I'm sure this is a good-faith proposal, but I'd suggest the proposer review WP:BLP. Absent a conviction for murder, this is dangerously premature. --BDD (talk) 19:03, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Either oppose or withdraw this proposal. Even if the proposal is under good faith, let's wait for court decision. --George Ho (talk) 23:50, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. per PatGallacher. The state medical examiner recently ruled that this case was homicide, but that is not quite the same as what the proposed title is claiming. Also, "Death of Foo" is a fairly standard Wiki format. There isn't necessarily any reason to change the title even if someone is convicted. Kauffner (talk) 03:34, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment A person being murdered does not automatically mean a person will always be convicted of murder. It just means that murder was the Manner of death. For example, in the Murder of Tim McLean, no one was convicted of his murder. The prime suspect who was tried was found not criminally responsible. Still, all agree the victim was murdered, and for legal purposes, it is considered a murder. In this Barnes case, the police have ruled the cause of death as murder, and have charged a suspect. The article does not call the suspect a "murderer." It just states the facts given from the sources --- that he was arrested and charged with her murder --- no libel involved. But all agree that regardless of the outcome, she was still murdered. Hellno2 (talk) 16:51, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
