Relevance
[edit]Hi Pincrete, how is it irrelevant? NY Times has a detailed article. AadaamS (talk) 11:25, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- The article exists because Awad was convicted of terrorism in Copenhagen - his earlier arrest in Africa is clearly relevant to HIS notability. His 'spouse' (it is unclear whether they were even married under Swedish law) - is not relevant to that crime, even less so her mother, and there is no good reason to name them or for that matter Nyamko Sabuni, who may have some unstated and unsourced relationship to one of the co-authors of a report critical of Awad's treatment in the earlier incident. We do not customarily name spouses (or their mothers, or distant relatives), unless there is some explicit reason to do so. Having defended Awad in his previous arrest seems a very weak reason to do so here. Naming the Sabunis, even more so, which is wholly uncited both as to the facts and relevance. Pincrete (talk) 11:57, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- One thing at at a time: Notability concerns standalone articles, not information inside articles. The inclusion bar for information in articles is WP:V verifiability in WP:RS sources. You have not anywhere claimed the sources are unreliable, or that no source makes the connection. Clearly WPRS sources make the connection, therefore it belongs in the article. The author of the CTC article is Magnus Ranstorp and there aren't any greater levels of expertise on radicalism in Sweden. I really hope this isn't going to degenerate into a discussion on whether a leading researcher at the Swedish Defence University is an expert. So I think it's a very strong source, among the WP:BESTSOURCES available. AadaamS (talk) 12:11, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- As you say, one thing at a time, I trust then that you agree that the 'co-authorship' by one Sabuni, regarding the 'Africa arest', his relationship to the other Sabuni, and the relevance of any connection between them is at present wholly uncited?
- No one disputes that in Africa, Awad was arrested along with Safia, the daughter of Helena Benaouda, who was active in getting her daughter released.
- I note that the daughter's (spousal) name has not been restored to the 'crime' infobox - which is a considerable improvement, since it is unclear whether Awad and Safia were ever legally married - and equally unclear that she was in any way related to the crime for which Awad was convicted - and certainly not notable in her own right.
- A RS is a necessary, but not sufficient reason for inclusion of names (of relatives past/present), or other info. I have already raised this at BLP noticeboard - in the hope of getting others' input as to whether - and which - namings serve any useful purpose.Pincrete (talk) 14:34, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- Which use? Usefulness is irrelevant for inclusion in enWP, per WP:NOTUSEFUL. AadaamS (talk) 08:25, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
- I'm now content that people are being properly named so the question is moot ... However, looking at the Ranstorp piece, it is actually a later inprisonment of Awad (in Pakistan?), which he says embarassed the mother in Sweden. This later inprisonment isn't covered at all at present. It was lat-ish last night that I saw this, so I haven't/won't have time to fix. Pincrete (talk) 10:31, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
