This person hates cats and clearly has an agenda. The request for edit or removal should therefore be denied as they have proven themselves biased and having an agenda against cats, indicating potential mental problems as well as likely cruelty.
Citations
[edit]I have been searching for Hadith that state the facts mentioned in this page, but they do not seem to exist. However this story seems to be accepted as legitimate, if a search is carried out on Google, there will be many sites that support it. In this case, what websites would be deemed as legitimate enough to be quoted as a citation? M2k41 22:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
There is no single arabic source that talks about the cats name nor the story about the "call to prayer".
- Please provide citations as per WP:V. Citations should be from respectable sources, historians etc., and not from a website which doesn't provide a source for it. --Ragib 01:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Have a look at any of the books in this Google search. You're mistaken if you think this story is limited to the Internet. - Nunh-huh 19:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
In the article's end, it is said that mistreating a cat is seen as a severe sin in Islam, but this is not right, because not especialy cat's are concerned, but any animal that don't make threat to humans. There's a hadith that say that a women went to hell because she let her cat die from starvation but the moral of the hadith doesn't target only the cats but all the other animals.
An Arabic written reference is mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Muezza_%282nd_nomination%29
This page needs to and must be deleted. When it comes to matters of religion we must have solid hadiths or the Quran as sources. If the websites or the books that mention this story are legitimate they would have used a hadith as a source. Also, I believe this story is the story of Abu Hurreira. I am asking you kindly to please change this. Prophet Muhammad used to treat cats kindly, and the last two stories are true (the ones about making wudu, and not torturing animals). The first two stories are not true and need to be edited.
While the story appears not to be especially old or authoritative, it is commonly told. I have edited the article to clearly indicate its status as a popular contemporary folktale that appears to have a fairly recent origin and is generally not considered historically accurate or religiously authoritative.

Removal of unsourced text
[edit]I have decided to remove the line "It is also believed that when Muhammad would give sermons within his household he would often hold Muezza in his lap [citation needed]" I originally put this in, but myself and others have not been able to find a source.M2k41 (talk) 00:28, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Recursive citing
[edit]"The most famous story about Muezza recounts how the call to prayer was given, and as Muhammad went to put on one of his robes, he found his cat sleeping on one of the sleeves, and instead of disturbing the cat he cut off the sleeve and let him sleep." uses http://www.muslimheritage.com/topics/default.cfm?TaxonomyTypeID=105&TaxonomySubTypeID=144&TaxonomyThirdLevelID=-1&ArticleID=686 as its source - but that article uses this Wikipedia article as its source for this story! The story about Muezza is false
[edit]I asked on a famous Saudi fatwa site about Muezza and got following answer:
Question:
Salam alaikum,
On Wikipedia it says, the Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa salam, had a cat called Muezza. When the cat came to him and lay on his garment, he cut of the sleeve of the garment, so the cat continued sleeping and he could leave. Is that true?
Salam alaikum
Nuha
Answer:
All Praise is for Allah.
We have not seen any hadith which proves that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a cat and the rest of the story. Apparently it is false and there is no need to resort to it to prove the compassion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) for animals. There are authentic hadiths which prove that, e.g. the hadith which mentions the Prophet (peace be upon him) letting a cat drink water from a vessel etc.
Allah knows best.

Picture?
[edit]I wonder if it's okay to have a picture of Muhammad's cat...—Chowbok ☠ 23:21, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
"M" pattern
[edit]The Arabic letter م is quite different, so I wonder where this comes from, or if it has anything to do with Muslims at all... AnonMoos (talk) 08:17, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Seconded; this makes the speculation about Abyssinian cats even more absurd, and sounds like western diaspora invented Islamic folklore. --xensyriaT 15:41, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Actually i heard this story in Malaysia. It's clearly diasporic but not necessarily Western. ~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.197.8.190 (talk) 04:30, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Combined, I think these two articles would have enough content for a decent sized article. The content is related. Smasongarrison (talk) 00:13, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
