Movie palace vs. picture palace

[edit]

Web searches turn up numerous references to both terms in both the US and UK, so I've revised the introduction to reflect this.-choster (talk) 23:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Movie theatres in the U.S. on the NRHP

[edit]

Many of the hundreds of U.S. NRHP-listed theatres may be movie palaces of the type described in this article. I've just used an automated tool to provide a list of all NRHP places with "theatre" or "theater" in their name, at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Theatres. This list may not link properly to some existing wikipedia articles on places that it covers, but it provides a good start. doncram (talk) 16:28, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Background History

[edit]

It is impossible to understand the Movie Palace, without a clear understanding of the theatres that led to their development. I've added a section to do so, along with citations, which this article is seriously lacking. Atmospheric theatre (talk) 16:27, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Palace List

[edit]

Is the list intended to only reflect movie palaces that are still open? Or are demolished ones allowed? Should we start a new list for demolished movie palaces? - Kzirkel (talk) 14:26, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like some are still open, some have been repurposed, and some have been demolished. It would definitely be better to diferentiate the list by current status. ... I think separate lists would be preferable to a table. 8bitW (talk) 00:15, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Movie Palace Table

[edit]

As per the more recent tags wishes I have begun to make this a table. A ton of work need, but adding a demolished column would be great.

The main thing is reconnecting all the picture palace links. I edited the list in excel before importing back to wikipedia. If anyone knows a smarter way to convert lists Let Me Know! I'd love to avoid that work in the future SquawkGuard (talk) 08:05, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ALSO perhaps there should be a deletion of some of the theaters from the period after the 1940s. I think a multi-plex opened in the 80s or 90s probably shouldn't be on this list. SquawkGuard (talk) 09:14, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
