In fact, "faculty" is a false friend of a translator from Russian into English since most commonly (especially in US English) this word means 'teaching staff'/'professorate' rather than 'department of a college/university' Nikola Borisov 10:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation folks

[edit]

AFAIK, Igor Kurchatov was not the founder of MIFI (but he have done a lot for the university) just because the MMIB was not initially oriented to nuclear program. I'd better name Dmitry Ustinov, narkom of munition. --jno 07:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The website says it was founded "with the direct participation of Igor Kurchatov". I think that's too vague, I'd still translate it as "founded by Kurchatov" even if technically he's not the person signing the paperwork. If you have a source that explanis the foundation story better - feel free to elaborate. In any case we don't want Kurchatov's name to drop from the article.
