Visiting Justices Report of Monmouth Gaol
"My Lords Ladies and Gentlemen - we have the honor to report that the discipline at the prison has been well maintained for the last quarter and the health of the prisoners has been good. We beg to report that on
the 1st of December Sarah Fitzgibben was transferred to Arnos Court Reformatory, in accordance with that sentence of the magistrates of the borough of Monmouth and we have to ask the court for the order of payment of 1s 6d. per week to be made to the institution from that date. The prisoners remaining in the prison were yesterday in accordance with orders of the Home Secretary and of the last quarter sessions transferred to Usk Prison. There were eleven male prisoners and six females and in accordance with those orders the Gaol is now closed" The financial quarter having closed of the 18th of last month the the goal being continued until the 31st there will be a supplementary charge of account to be sent at the ensuing quarter"

- I think that Western Mail extract is certainly worthy of at least a footnote. A very nice find. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:33, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
