First name?

[edit]

His first name isn't Michael. It's either Mischa or Mihail. As Mischa is the name used on the official ATP website I think it should be Mischa in the wiki lemma as well. Horiks 18:52, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm .... When it comes to tennis data, I refer to Steve G's site. For whatever reason, he uses the "Michael" spelling. In fact, if you look at [1], you can see the switch in Steve's files from Mischa to Michael about 4 years ago. Some of the english language sites also use Michael (tenniscorner, tennis-x, ....) But the ATP site and Wimbledon use Mischa. And google gives 70,000 hits for Mischa vs. 1,000 for Mihail and just about 50 for Michael. It sounds like this article could use a couple redirects so that all 3 names work. Rename to Mischa, redirect Michael and Mihail to it. I am new here. How do we make this happen? Ys, we should create some redirects. But I don't know how to do that, too. I'll try to find out. I think, on the ATP website they changed his name from Mihail to Mischa some time ago. In the German media he is always calles Mischa. That's why I used "Mischa" when I created the page about him on the German wikipedia a couple of days ago. But maybe Michael is in fact what is written in his passport as it's the common German spelling of that name. I have now done this. —MC 15:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And isn't Mischa just a short form of Michael? —MC 15:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
