Non-canonical
The first sentence: This article features minor characters from the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So should there be a section on characters from the non-canonical (non-Doyle) stories? Suggest list moves to Non-canonical Sherlock Holmes works or possibly Non-canonical Sherlock Holmes characters. Merger proposal
I am requesting that Mrs. Watson (Mary Morstan) be merged into Minor Sherlock Holmes characters. Any relevant information in the former is already present in her entry in the latter, and I'm not sure as a minor character she has independent notability. HominidMachinae (talk) 00:12, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
I removed a reference to a non-canonical character in the Mrs Hudson section. If you included non-canonical versions of characters, you'd have to include dominatrix Mrs Hudson and vampire Mrs Hudson. Silly.

Not certain of the criteria in use…
This seems to be a wholly arbitrary selection of characters – what guides it? For example, Langdale Pike has an entry (at some length), yet he doesn’t actually appear in the one story he’s mentioned in. Charles Augustus Milverton, with whom Pike is compared, on the other hand, doesn’t get a mention, in spite of being both present in, and central to, his story. Mrs. Hudson – who given her presence throughout the series, and that she plays an active role in Holmes’s scheme in “The Empty House” – is scarcely a minor character, and yet she’s not only here, her biography confuses the canonical version with the non-canonical character seen in the recent BBC “Sherlock”. She’s also picked out as having been central to a Russian TV series, as if that was unusual for screen adaptations, whereas if truth be told she is an established, and central character in most films and series, including the Rathbone films, the Granada series and the Bert Coules radio versions. - Right now, the established criterion seems to be length of article. Sebastian Moran has his own article despite only appearing in one short story. If a better criterion could be found, I'd be all for it. Serendipodous 12:55, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
Reference existing?
I tried to find the source of the reference (10) ^ Michael C. Barstow, "The Private Life of the Great Detectives", Ch.1, 3, but to no avail. Does it actually exist? All I can find on the net is the quote from the wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.18.17.45 (talk) 14:22, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Mrs. Hudson question
Perhaps we should explain why Mrs. Hudson would give Sherlock a special deal on rent for "ensuring the conviction and execution of her husband in Florida". Apparently she did not like her husband? This is mentioned in the part about the Sherlock TV show. University Internet Cafe Booth 6 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:57, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
No reference to Mary Watson's death in 'Black Peter'
The death of Mary Watson ("seven years ago") is referred to in the story 'The Adventure of Black Peter'.
Sorry, but I just can't find that reference in 'Black Peter'. Not once does the phrase "seven years ago" appear in this story, at least not in my copy. Even searching for the single words ("seven", "years", "ago"), I find no reference to the late Mrs Watson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.129.87.217 (talk) 20:44, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Mrs Hudson and the agent
"In "A Scandal in Belgravia" when agents torture Mrs Hudson trying to find a mobile phone, Sherlock repeatedly throws the agent responsible out of an upper-level window"
I know in the show Lestrade says something like "How many times did he fall out the window" to which Sherlock replies "I lost count", but surely this was just a joke because Holmes had beaten him up before throwing him out the window. Are we really suggesting that he through the guy out the window, ran downstairs, picked up the broken and battered Agent, carried him up the stairs and repeated several times???
Langdale Pike
- In the American television series Elementary, Pike appears in the first episode of the second season as one of Holmes' sources in London; details are not seen as Pike moves quickly when delivering a package to Watson.
Regretfully, I feel the above to completely be missing the point. Or, in the words of AV Club:
- "Shooting in London was worth the extra money: some great location work, and Sherlock’s use of the CCTV’s to communicate with one of his informants was an inspired engagement with the location (and a clever interpretation of a canonical character)."

Mrs. Hudson article proposal
I propose splitting off the section for Mrs. Hudson to its own article at Mrs. Hudson, which was once an article but was merged to this page in 2010. Since then, myself and others have added to the section, and I believe it now merits being its own page. The section for Mrs. Hudson is as long as the article for Irene Adler, and like Adler, Mrs. Hudson is a relatively minor character in the canon but notable enough to have a page because of her prominence in adaptations. I've split off the section to its own page at Mrs. Hudson. Miles26 (talk) 05:24, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
