Versions of Haskins' given names
[edit]I would like to move this page to Minnie Haskins, as that is the name generally given in anthologies. Are there any objections?--Collingwood (talk) 21:11, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- She is known in almost all citations as Minnie Louise Haskins or M. Louise Haskins. I have not seen her cited as simply Minnie Haskins. I don't think the move is warranted. IACOBVS (talk) 10:58, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Which year did she die?
[edit]The box at the top says Haskins died in 1957, the text says 1955.Stratopastor (talk) 11:26, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- She died in 1957. Text has been updated. IACOBVS (talk) 10:58, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Place of birth
[edit]ODNB says this: " ... born at 2 Kingswood Hill, Oldland, near Bristol, on 12 May 1875, the second child and eldest daughter of Joseph Haskins (1842–1891), a grocer who acquired a pottery works at Warmley where he manufactured clay drainpipes, and his wife, Louisa, née Bridges (1848–1914), who became proprietor of the business after her husband's death." So what is currently in the article seems to be slightly wrong - Bitton is a neighbouring parish. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:17, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for improving this page, Martinevans123. Your point on the DOB/DOD of MLH at the opening sentence as being WP MoS is conceded as well. IACOBVS (talk) 22:18, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
- No worries. I think the ODNB entry is an excellent source that can be used to correct/ expand the article. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:21, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
Haskins and Philosophy ?
[edit]As far as I can tell, Minnie Louise Haskins is not deemed an academic in philosophy. According to LSE, "Minnie Louise Haskins studied at LSE from 1918-1920, gaining a Social Science Certificate with distinction in 1919, and a Diploma in Sociology with distinction in Philosophy in 1920."[1] I concede she studied philosophy, but I see no evidence that she taught it or that she should be deemed an instructor in philosophy. Is this any evidence that she was indeed a philosopher? If not, the opening sentence should delete this reference. IACOBVS (talk) 22:31, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. ODNB says this: "She passed the social science certificate in 1919 and the diploma in sociology the following year, both with distinction." No mention of philosophy at all. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:37, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
