If this weapon was developed in 1849, how was it issued to Zouaves in North Africa in 1846?

I removed the 1846 statement - could not find any other source to back it up. Dcheng (talk) 23:05, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buck and Ball claim

The article claims buck and ball was the common load for military smoothbore muskets. I've never seen reference to buck and ball as a military musket load. It's possible it may have been used in the US, but it certainly wasn't the standard elsewhere, where ball was the standard.
