Spectator Mode
In the narration before the sections below, all game types (survival, creative, adventure) are mentioned but Spectator is not. I know this is a minor mistake but I just wanted to point it out. I am a new user and not confirmed yet, so I could not make the edit. Stella Kulik (talk) 18:06, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

The explanation behind the gameplay mechanics of Minecraft carry a great amount of detail but is simple enough to understand. However, I found the other sections to be lacking in detail, as I had more questions than answers after reading about the development of the game, as well as it’s applications. A few pieces of information that could be in the Wikipedia article are the names of other contributors to the development of Minecraft, as well as examples of structures created by the Block by Block project. This lack of information creates an unbalanced article that only focuses on the video game itself. It would be much appreciated to have more information on the development and applications of Minecrat. 9:20, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Edit requests need to include clear and specific changes to make, while this reads more like a suggestion. This article is focused on the video game, but that is because this article is about the game. Other related organizations/projects and such probably don't need heavy detail included here. The article does have a lot of details about various community efforts and organizations though. -- ferret (talk) 16:47, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Could someone add a brief explanation of "spawn" and "despawn" to the text? There is a fair amount of jargon in this article, but this one leapt out at me when I read that a player could reclaim their items after dying if the player reached them before they despawned. It sounded like the player despawned, so I had to pause and think about it.
Also, could someone remove the italics from the subheading "Pocket Edition"?
Thanks! NomDeGruyere (talk) 16:52, 26 October 2015 (UTC)NomDeGruyere

Please java is not a plataform, remove it— Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.36.242.22 (talk) 00:33, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- No. Java (software platform) is very much a platform. -- ferret (talk) 13:44, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- If this is the case, then the individual "Windows," "Linux," and "OS X" entries should be removed -- the game runs on Java regardless of the host operating system in that case. "Java applet" is also a silly thing to distinguish. It's still Java.
- On a related note, declaring "Windows 10" as a platform is a little bit confusing, especially with generic "Windows" already stated. Is there a way to signify that it's talking about the Metro/Universal port of Pocket Edition? (Not the MCPE reference in the list directly, but to make it clearer it's not a normal Windows app) --Chungy (talk) 13:27, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- I was about to agree about removing "Windows", "Linux", and "OS X", since the game itself is Java and therefore not written for those OS directly... but what about the launchers? The Windows version has a native launcher that is not Java, and even takes care of installing Java for the game to run on. If we don't care about that, than I agree with removing the generic OS listings.
- I'm not sure on how to note it, but I also agree that the "Windows 10" edition is a distinctly different thing. It needs to stay, but perhaps renamed... I'm just not up to date on the terminology. -- ferret (talk) 13:53, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

- At least on Linux, the launcher is just a jar file that you have to run with Java. You could run Minecraft on FreeBSD, Solaris, or any other system with Java plus the lwjgl native libraries ported (people have, in fact, done this very thing). Not a Windows person myself, but it seems that Microsoft prefers to call them "Universal" apps now (despite only running on Windows 10...), but we should have someone better familiar with that environment and lingo to make the call. --Chungy (talk) 09:25, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- IMO the best way to deal with this would be listing only the officially supported platforms, like so: "Java (Windows, Mac, Linux)", and then listing other platforms after that. I'm not familiar with Windows 10 myself but I think it would count as its own platform since that version is written in C++ instead of Java. --Veikk0.ma 09:20, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

- Most readers are going to want to see what versions are available (or not) for their particular hardware, with Java, etc being of secondary interest. I humbly suggest organizing in that fashion. NomDeGruyere (talk) 16:44, 26 October 2015 (UTC)NomDeGruyere
- Agreed, I'm editing this to hopefully simply the list, and replacing "Windows 10" with "Universal Windows Platform." I'm also removing "Amazon Fire TV" as it is really just an Android device and the only distinguishing feature for Minecraft is being distributed via the Amazon Appstore rather than Google Play, otherwise being exactly the same game and same APK. --Chungy (talk) 22:31, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Information about the PC Edition/Version
Greetings Wikipedia Editors, As you may know about Minecraft, is that the PC Version was the original and probably the most crucial version of the Minecraft business. In my opinion, the PC Version deserves its own page providing much more detail about its updates and modifications, along with the differences between the PC and PE, XBOX, etc. editions of the game. I know a fair amount about the 1.7 and 1.8 updates, so I would really recommend a PC Version page titled "Minecraft (PC Version)" or something similar, as I could dedicate a lot of information.
Note: If there is already a page for the PC Version, please direct me to that page.
Thanks for reading. KnowledgeIsGoodForYou (talk) 15:43, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
- That's simply not how we organize Wikipedia. We do not keep detailed information on updates or versions, and need reliable sources to back up anything we do include. You might want to read over WP:VGSCOPE, which is a project guideline and details some of the things that should not be included on Wikipedia (And are more suitable for Wikia/Gamepedia). -- ferret (talk) 16:03, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
- That said, all versions of Minecraft are independently notable with enough sources for WP:GNG and sufficient content for WP:WAF. The article currently provides a rather messy distinction between the versions and calls them all the same game, even when the "ports" are ground-up rewrites that have different features. For example, gameplay talks as if it is applicable to all versions. If anything, I think the non-PC editions should have their own articles to organize the content. For someone unfamiliar with the game, the article does not make it clear about what happens around the time all the version started appearing and how they are different. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 16:42, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

I have written a rough draft regarding the recent announcements about Minecraft Education Edition. Feel free to make any changes or edits to use for the final draft of the article.
- On January 19, 2016 Minecraft announced a new tool for education, called Minecraft Education planned to be released in 2016. Minecraft is already being used in classrooms around the world to teach everything from STEM subjects to arts and poetry. Minecraft Education will be designed specifically for classroom use. The Education Edition gives teachers the tools they need to use Minecraft on an everyday basis.
- There are few differences between Minecraft and MinecraftEDU. The main concept is the same, an open sandbox world. The student’s characters in MinecraftEDU will be able to retain characteristics. Students will also be able to download the game at home, without having to buy their own version of the game. Finally the last large difference is that students can take in game photos. These photos will be stored in an online notebook with the students online notes. These online notebooks will be shareable with other students.

Suggested changes
-Fix references/contexts from 1-12 not appearing
-Add #Spectator_mode link to "...and a spectator mode where..."
-Talk briefly about hardcore mode in the first part, it is the only mode that has been missed
Gerottinho (talk) 00:19, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
- Just to comment , on the first point, the lack of reference context clicking (eg clicking the "^" in front of the reference to go to where it is used) is not there unless you expand the release date section of the infobox. Arguably, what should be done is to remove the references in the infobox and make sure each release date is discussed and sourced in the body of the article at that point. --MASEM (t) 00:49, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
