[edit]

He now plays for Middlesbrough; shouldn't that now serve as the lead image? Ashnard Talk Contribs 18:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The images User:Midos88 keeps on uploading give licensing which don't make sense and are unfree. This one is the only one available really. Mattythewhite 18:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Does that warrant having an old image up though? You're right not to include such an image, but it does need to be renewed. Ashnard Talk Contribs 20:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Whats the problem with it? Better to have an image than no image. Mattythewhite 20:03, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Better to have current image than past image. Ashnard Talk Contribs 20:11, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but a current image isn't available. And anyway, all an image is needed for is to see what the person in question looks like, not what his current teams kit looks like. Mattythewhite 21:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, what he looks like is more important than what he's wearing. The only current alternative depends on the licence on the current image and its resolution, a crop of his head only is a possibility but I doubt the image will be big enough to get a decent thumbnail of his face. Leave as is. The Rambling Man 21:57, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My bad. It's just—as a Boro fan— I'd prefer that. I suppose there's no harm in having the Spurs image up though. Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 10:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The current image is badly out of focus though. So perhaps looking for another image is due. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yehia18 (talkcontribs) 23:57, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There was a discussion here about the image. Mattythewhite (talk) 06:44, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing stuff up Yehia18 (talk) 14:54, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA review comments

[edit]

Here they are:

  • Year ranges (e.g. infobox) ought to be separated by en-dash and can be shortened, so 2004-2006 can read 2004–06.
  • Being a touch pedantic, "...a total of..." is redundant.
  • "...after kicking an opponent by failing to beat his opponent for the ball.[7] This resulted in a three match ban.[8]"
  • "6-0" - en dash time, and all other scores.
  • "Koeman commnented..." - typo, plus reiterate that Koeman criticised again...
  • "Mido clashed with coach Ronald Koeman and reportedly..."
  • It says his move to Celta Vigo fell through but FIFA allowed it. 99% of the time a move falls through for personal/club reasons - why would FIFA need to allow it?
  • "Olympique de Marseille then were believed to have made an offer for Mido and Celta were not reading to not meet Ajax's asking price of €15 million for Mido.[40][41]" - not reading to not meet? Sorry, confused...!
  • "Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce revealed Mido was his main summer target.[46]" - this is the next sentence after Mido's pre-season for Marseille - did he stay there for any duration?
  • "Mido was forced to miss Marseille's clash with Austria Vienna in August, due to pain in one of his legs before kick-off.[49]" - is this really important?
  • "Mido was caught speeding on the way to Marseille's game to Monaco, which resulted in a court hearing.[55]" ditto?
  • "Mido was confirmed to be likely to play against Messina in September 2004,[62] which he did play in, which Roma however lost 4-3.[63]" - not good English.
  • "Mido suffered from a muscular injury in October, which meant he was to miss Roma's game against Inter Milan.[64]", "Mido missed Roma's game against Chievo in January due to flu.[71]", "Mido suffered a groin injury in November 2006, which ruled him out for two weeks.[88]" - important?
  • "3 goals" - "three goals" (for numbers less than ten).

Several things to consider, I'll place the article on hold, so there are now seven days to adjust it accordingly. The Rambling Man 19:35, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Mido made his debut for Marseille against Dinamo Bucharest in a pre-season game, in which he had to be substituted off due to an injury.[44] Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce revealed Mido was his main summer target.[45] Mido eventually score his first goal for the club against PAOK in a pre-season match, during which he scored two goals and made two assists." - these sentences still leave a state of confusion... The Rambling Man 22:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Moved the info to a more suitable place. Couldn't really find an ideal place for it, what do you think? Mattythewhite 22:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's quite an overuse of Mido, in successive sentences where it's clear you're still talking about him, just use "he" or "his" or "him". It will massively improve the prose. The Rambling Man 06:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Less of the Mido and more of the he. Mattythewhite 07:27, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, all my concerns addressed, so I'm promoting to GA now. Well done. The Rambling Man 09:34, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

28th August 2007, Mido abuse, or 'barracking'

[edit]

"Mido was subject to barracking from Newcastle supporters". What was the specific nature of this 'barracking'? Drumnbach 13:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doesnt anybody have a better picture to put instead of this one?? Its is not a nice picutre...Abdallah (talk) 15:01, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The picture has been changed since then, but I have an issue with this. I thought the other one was good compared to the current one, which is incredibly blurry. To be honest I was going to remove it and replace it with the old picture, which was also blurry but at least you could tell who he was. Anyone have any objection to this? Also, can we please find a better picture somewhere? Bardiak (talk) 20:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are free to change it if you like, but it isn't too easy getting free licence images. I had a browse through flickr and this image was about all I could find. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:22, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mattythewhite, was it the fact he has moved on from TH which suggested a change was necessary or was it a license issue? Tmol42 (talk) 20:30, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
At the Image section, it was suggested that a new image be uploaded as he had joined Middlesbrough, so the former. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:32, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I see the tussle you had there. You argued persuasively then... better a good image with the old kit than a poor image. I would vote for a return to the liliywhite kit pro tem not knowing how/how easy it is, to secure a free one on the www.Tmol42 (talk) 20:46, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
