General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: @AirshipJungleman29: Good article. But the sections under Amateur wins and "The RBC Canadian Open also offered Block an exemption." do not have citations. Also, plenty of people have edited this article since your creation so you might want to look over the article again. Onegreatjoke (talk) 02:38, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, forgot to mention but there also looks to be some copyvio issues that i'd like addressed. Onegreatjoke (talk) 03:00, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Onegreatjoke, the copyvio issues are websites copying from Wikipedia, not the other way around. The Professional wins, results in major championships and U.S. national team appearances sections are uncited because their respective information is cited in the body, in accordance with the precedent for golf articles on Wikipedia. I have added a citation for the final website. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:38, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
AirshipJungleman29 One minor issue before i approve. https://www.pgatour.com/player/22764/michael-block says he was born in Reno but the article says St. Louis. So which is it? Onegreatjoke (talk) 18:05, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Onegreatjoke, new information must have been added. I've updated the article. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 18:10, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Article looks good now. Onegreatjoke (talk) 18:12, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Earwig 36% score, but since that article was written four days ago, they likely copied Wikipedia. Bruxton (talk) 20:49, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

[edit]
  • Do we have a source for his nickname of Blockie?
    • I've removed it on multiple occasions, but Jimmymci234 keeps adding it back in.
      • A search does show some instances of that nickname being used.[1][2] I'm not sure whether those are considered reliable sources by the golf project?
        • Added.
  • which was one of the highest finishes for a club pro in decades Based on the source, it was literally the highest finish for decades in this event (not just one of the best). This could be expanded on a bit in the main article, where it currently isn't mentioned.
    • Edited the lead and expanded in body.
  • Block was the assistant club professional The term "club professional" could do with an explanatory note.
    • Done.
  • during the second round Anything on the first round? We have notes from the second, third and fourth. Even just a brief "After shooting par on the first day..." so where know where he's at entering day two.
    • Done.
  • Block nevertheless secured a return to a PGA Tour event, The American Express Was he returning to The American Express specifically, or more generally to the PGA Tour?
    • I am unsure. This was changed by Tewapack after I added it a few days ago.
      • Based on the source, it looks like he was returning to the tour. Possible rephrasing: "Block nevertheless secured a place in another PGA Tour event when he qualified for The American Express." Something like that, to clarify.
        • Done.
  • Maybe mention that he had previously missed the cut at the PGA Championship four times out of four.
    • Done.
  • Perhaps put a quote from Block on his PGA Championship performance in general (or the hole in one specifically) as it's his career highlight?
    • I don't think that would be encyclopedic, but I can if you really want.
      • No need—I don't know of any firm rules on the usage of quotes.
  • There's a few issues with the citations. Sometimes these don't work for me due to me living in the UK; if they look fine to you then no problem.
    • I also live in the UK, and am getting the same results for citations 2, 4, and 6; as the non-archived versions work, I have added parameters to the citations.
  • Citation 2: The archived version isn't loading for me (the current version is fine).
  • Citation 4: Same as citation 2.
  • Citation 6: Same as citation 2.
  • Citation 8: I can't see anything about Block in the current version or the archived one.
    • I can't find it either (I suspect the school posted something that has now been removed) so I have removed the citation.
  • Citation 13: This looks to be out of date, now leading to a menu page.

No other issues - good work on this. Harper J. Cole (talk) 23:48, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
