"Brand"
[edit]The GTTA does not refer to "Metrolinx" as a "brand" anywhere on its website, but as the "name under which the GTTA conducts business". I have adjusted the article accordingly. Brands are for cattle and laundry detergents. Fortunately the GTTA is a distinguished enough body that it has not adopted this marketing industry buzzword, and Wikipedia need not either. The Wikipedia:Manual of Style recommends plain English instead of jargon. Ground Zero | t 22:33, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don’t really see what difference it makes to replace the word ‘brand’ with its definition — it’s the same thing regardless, just a with TransLink (the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority), Nexus (the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive), Centro (the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive), and the like. I do think, though, that the first sentence of the article ought to say what they do. David Arthur (talk) 23:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Because we should use plain English instead of marketing industry jargon. I agree that the first sentence should say what they do, and am satisfied with the current version. Ground Zero | t 23:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is late news, but with the May 14, 2009 merger of GO Transit and Metrolinx, 'Metrolinx' is now the legal name of 'Metrolinx' and 'GO Transit' is now a Metrolinx "brand". I use the term loosely because it is not yet clear exactly how GO Transit is being fit into the Metrolinx structure. Daveharr (talk) 00:09, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Former AUthorities
[edit]I have removed a reference to a "Greater Toronto Transit Operating Authority" as a predecessor because (1) it appears to be a garbled reference to the Toronto Area Transit Operating Authority, a former incarnation of GO Transit and (2) it was not a predecessor of Metrolinx. There has never been an agency responsible for overall regional transportation planning in the Greater Toronto Area prior to Metrolinx, unless we want to count the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
