Possible discrepancy

[edit]

I’m here from linking Wikidata items to articles. I noticed that Wikidata has d:Q18112925, which refers to the Metallicomyia genus being in the Calliphoridae family (which is also stated here). However, this article states that it is part of the Tachinidae family. I’m not overly familiar with the topic area, but as there seems to be a discrepancy, I just wanted to note this down on the talk page. Pinging Simuliid as the article’s creator. I searched online and found the following sites that refer to the Metallicomyia genus belonging to the Calliphoridae family rather than the Tachinidae family. However, given my lack of familiarity with the topic area, I can’t speak to the reliability of these sources. Given that, though - on the face of it - there seems to be a discrepancy, I’ll tag the relevant part of the article with {{disputed inline}}.

Thank you for this post on this chat page, The higher Diptera (Oestroidea & Muscoidea) have been subject to recent reviews, and there are more to come.
I would be fairly comfortable with Metallicomyia in Tachinidae, for now anyway. Most of the recent changes in taxonomy have been led by Thomas Pape's team in Copenhagen. He is also one of the admins for Systema Dipterorum database, along with Neal Evenhuis. See [4]. I'm also using [5] this is work in progress. But again, world leading authorities.
The sources you mention are generally not as well curated, especially with Diptera.
There are some radial changes ahead in Diptera, many that I know of, but I can't make those changes here, until they have been published in a respected publication.

@Simuliid: That’s fair enough - I’ll happily defer to your judgement as someone much more knowledgeable about the subject than myself! (And as such I’ll remove the maintenance tag I added, given the explanation you’ve provided.) Thank you for taking the time to respond and apologies if this came across badly at all
