Mental mapping versus Mind map
[edit]Isn't this the same as Mind map??? AFD? MPS 16:51, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- It isn't. While a mind map is a diagram, a mental map resembles an actual map. It's not meant to be a precise representation of a spatial area, though, but rather an image of one's perception of it. For examples, just use you favorite image search. There might be some linguists who use the terms mental map and cognitive map to describe a diagram (which others would call a semantic map; found this and this), but that's not the common usage. According to an article in the German wikipedia, the term mental map is used in graph theory, too. --Axolotl Nr.733 (talk) 09:12, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Mental map vs Cognitive map
[edit]Is there a difference between these topics? At Cognitive map, mental map is actually given as a synonym in the first sentence. Perhaps a merge would be in order? Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:58, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
