Trade Bait?
[edit]It has been rumored that the Yankees had offered a deal to the Florid Marlins for pitcher Dontrelle Willis, who might not be resigned or might be traded in 2008, in exchange for Melky Cabrera and other players to be determined. Willis is on thin ice in Florida given his recent struggles and Florida's need to spend less on players it is possible the marlins could bite. Also the Marlins are in need of a center fielder and cabrera could be converted to fill their need . the trade could diffenitely happen if rookie center fielder Alejandro de Aza of the Marlins struggles and the trade deadline nears.
Trivia Section
[edit]Boy, Yankees bias much? There's a paragraph written about him getting a couple of RBI singles in a game in one part, with phrases such as "but he didn't let this get him down" in regards to his slump, etc. You know, for a remarkably below average major league player (sorry, stats don't lie), with rather limited major league experience, this guy has a rather extensive (read: overly long) wikipedia page. I'm clearing out a lot of the trivia, because 1) trivia sections aren't really supposed to exist to begin with, and 2) it has severe NPOV issues. Much of it is not cited, and even when it is, the writer is clearly not objective in his diction. There was a trivia point about how Melky has ten toes, for God's sake. This is Wikipedia, not your fan page.President David Palmer (talk) 06:36, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Mr. President, if you took the time to read the section you would have noted that Melky's father had the extra toes, not melky. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.67.131.216 (talk) 15:01, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Thats Jeter not Melky
[edit]in his 2007 picture its Derek Jeter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.251.100.152 (talk) 18:07, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Cano
[edit]Yeah I have doubts about the little tidbit about him and Robinson Cano. Please confirm that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.246.117.91 (talk) 23:46, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Not a Brave yet!
[edit]Until the players involved take their physicals, pass them, and the teams make an official announcement, Melky is still officially a Yankee. I'm sure everything will be announced before the holiday, but why are we listing him as a Brave, even with the article protected? By the way, thanks to whoever semi-protected it. It was getting a little ridiculous. Kjscotte34 (talk) 16:23, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- It's being taken care of. Not that I'm innocent, since I didn't realize it until after I'd changed 2010 New York Yankees season... Ferrantino (talk) 16:25, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem...someone else keeps changing it. I believe the official word will come from MLB.com. ESPN, SI, etc etc are not the official sites of Major League Baseball....the team sites and MLB.come are. I feel like nothing should be changed until MLB releases an official transaction. Right now, there are no transactions listed, just articles letting people know the trade is close. Kjscotte34 (talk) 17:30, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Apparently my pleas are falling on deaf ears. The trade has NOT been announced. I checked every single transaction section, and there's nothing about this trade. Only the articles, which means, no physical has been taken yet! The Mike Lowell deal was done, yet it got canceled because he failed a physical. While the odds are low this gets canceled, the possibility still exists. Don't jump the gun! Kjscotte34 (talk) 18:32, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
This official press release from the New York Yankees and this one from the Atlanta Braves makes it offical. Bmg916 (talk) 18:42, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes it does! I will now proceed to shut up for five minutes or so :-) Kjscotte34 (talk) 19:29, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- Lol, no worries, you had the best of intentions. Bmg916 (talk) 20:08, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Today Melky said he would not accept the batting title because of the steroids controversy. This is a pet peeve, because it is only right that the statistics be whatever they are, not based on someone's opinion. If he wins the batting title officially, that should be the truth, not what he chooses. There is nothing in the rules that disqualifies him from being the batter with the highest average, so that is what should be shown, if such case may be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.72.186 (talk) 23:50, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Also, with commissioner and players union assent to the plan, this sets a very bad precedent that a player, who is dependent on the good graces of the teams, can be pressured not to accept an award, title, or other achievement, whether it was rightfully won or not. They have changed the rules after the fact, and that is not acceptable in such situations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.72.186 (talk) 00:32, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
It's a good thing that Ford Frick didn't think of this trick back in 1961. He could have ruled Roger Maris ineligible to break Babe Ruth's record no matter how many homers Roger hit that yeat. WHPratt (talk) 19:11, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
I believe that Carbrera was one plate appearance short of the required minimum of 502 with regard to qualifying for the batting championship. However, there is a rule to cover this which involves adding the difference as one additional hitless at-bat, and recalculating his batting average. If he still has a lead over the next qualifier, he still wins. Bud Selig can put his golden bat wherever he wants to, or rather give it to whomever he wishes, but statistically, Carbrera did the league in hitting by the rules in place.
