Mehta
[edit]Should the title of this article be 'Mehta Basti Ram' or simply 'Basti Ram'? DTM (talk) 13:40, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that is the WP:COMMONNAME, unless I am mistaken. I am almost sure that it was his family name, but for some strange reason it is written at the front. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:45, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanedar
[edit]Thanedar was not a wazir. When Ladakh was first conquered, five thanas were created: Leh, Nubra, Kargil, Drass, and Zanskar. Very likely they all came under the Kishtwar wazarat, which was Zorawar's domain, but obviously Leh was the key location. It looks like Ladakh was made into a wazarat some time later, probably under Mehta Mangal's time. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:51, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Apparently they all reported directly to Gulab Singh. A new book by Kyle Gardner (with a naughty cover) cites:
- C. L. Datta, Ladakh and Western Himalayan Politics: 1819–1848. The Dogra Conquest of Ladakh, Baltistan and West Tibet and Reactions of Other Powers (New Delhi: Mushiram Manoharlal, 1973), 39.

Zorawar Fort
[edit]I think the claims of Mehta Basti Ram being the first "qiladar" are wrong. The position was called "thanedar". Sources say that Magna Thanedar built it, and he was also the thanedar when Zorawar Singh went on his campaign to Tibet [1]. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 01:48, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
