How many casualties?

[edit]

The number of casualties is unclear.

Besides the terrorist, different reports list 1, 2 or 7 people killed.

This report lists 2 people killed on the bus and 5 injured. No mention of any Palestinian working in the rest area. Maybe the total of 7 victims (2 killed and 5 injured) is incorrectly used in reports that list 7 people killed.

The figure of 20 injured used by Katz seems exaggerated to me. I will further check it some day (by looking at newspaper reports from that period, in the Tel Aviv library).

The 20+1 number is also repeated in Spies, Inc.: Business Innovation from Israel's Masters of Espionage. Specifically, The explosion also killed an Arab worker who had the great misfortune of standing near the junction that morning. Twenty Israeli soldiers and a civilian in the immediate vicinity of the bomb were injured. --[1] Raul654 (talk) 16:31, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if your sources are reliable enough. According to an official Knesset report here (in Hebrew), 2 bus passengers were killed and 5 injured. This is consistent with the Tel Aviv University research cited above. I suggest we keep in line with the official version (2 killed except the terrorist, 5 injured). -- 212.199.49.9 (talk) 16:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't speak hebrew. Can you please translate the relevant passage for me? Raul654 (talk) 16:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It says: "Following the agreements signed between Israel and the PLO, Hamas increased its terror attacks against Israel. In April 16, 1993 Hamas carried out the first suicide bombing attack in Israel - a car loaded with bombs exploded between two buses that were parked near the Mehola Junction (2 killed and 5 injured)." The document, dated September 2, 2004, was written by a researcher in the Knesset Research and Information Center and approved by his supervisor. It lists several Palestinian organizations and their activities. I checked sample details, and found it to be very accurate. -- 212.199.49.9 (talk) 16:49, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be better if the article was written without propagandistic sources like Shmuel Katz (the former propaganda chief of the Irgun). The newspaper reports of the days following all say 2 killed (incl the bomber) and between 7 and 9 injured. For example, Jerusalem Post (18 April 1993, p1) says "Eight soldiers and an Arab man, the brother of the worker who was killed, were slightly wounded by the blast" and "The dead worker was identified as Marwan Ghani, 25, from the nearby village of Bardala."
