Notable

[edit]

A brief look at published works in Google Books shows that Maurice Benayoun is notable as an artist.--Bejnar 20:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not encyclopedic

[edit]

This article is not laid out in accordance with the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Long lists of works shown and works produced is not helpful, in fact could be considered trivial. How are these individual works notable? There are no page numbers listed for the references. Since these are all about larger topics, does Benayoun rate a mere mention, a single sentence, a paragraph, or a chapter? How much of the material is from these publications? An initial look indicates that the material in the article is mostly not available from the listed references. --Bejnar 20:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article contains verbatim material from the artist's homepage http://www.benayoun.com/ABio.html biography. --Bejnar 20:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point of view. So I can bring some answers: I mentioned in my previous version of the article the origin of a big part of it: MB web site. This has been done after asking MB for autorisation. I can bring this autorisation to you but I don't know how you want it. I'm thinking about rewriting some parts, I already checked most of the data I agree that we could reduce the list of works but many people like to know that they will find the detailed list of works on wikipedia. I can provide the pages of the mentioned publications. I already have limited this list that is not on MB web site.FlorenceBesanon 21:35, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Florence Besançon[reply]

[edit]

after Bejnar reply, I asked Maurice Benayoun if there is any copyright on his web site. He added the "copyleft" tag on his bio web page. That confirm that the content is made to be used. I'm working on an impoved and more personnal version of the article. FlorenceBesanon 22:39, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Florence Besançon[reply]

Rewrite needed

[edit]

This article needs a total rewrite to make it encyclopedic. Because it is copied from the subject's website the tone is unencyclopedic. Some of the grammar is incomprehensible as well. The long, resume-like lists need pruning. BuddingJournalist 13:16, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for checking if tags are still relevant. --81.64.53.102 16:11, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been modified

[edit]

I have moved some things around in this article so it is more encyclopedic and biographical rather than just a resume of how great this artist is. It need a little more work. But this is better.Seth J. Frantzman 19:42, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

COI tag (May 2021)

Good point! I checked it out. It is not uncommon that contributors to articles eventually meet and collaborate with people they have been motivated to write about. Anyway, apparently close to 250 editings after the creation of the page didn't really deny its legitimacy. Very early comments discussed the similarity with the artist's web page and this seems to have been rapidly rectified. It seems also that additional details have been required by a Wikipedia editor to be merged with this article instead of becoming separate articles (I personally contributed to this). This may explain the lengthy article. Regarding the Peacock tag, Benayoun is actually a reference in the field, but if you consider some wordings to be overtly laudatory, it would be very helpful that you remove, or modify them. This article is still a promotional train wreck. The maintenance tags should remain until the issues are actually fixed. MrOllie (talk) 17:20, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MrOllie, I'm impressed by your will to make Wikipedia a better place for education, research, and dialogue. However, your tone doesn't sound academic, encyclopedic, and definitely not of a nature to inspire other Wiki contributors. Apparently, since there is no accurate information to substantiate your comments, some may consider they are pure trolling to brag about how knowledgeable and important you are. Very sad for the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.214.222.86 (talk) 06:03, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not trolling, no. This article is full of promotional text from top to bottom, and is poorly sourced to boot. Are you associated with this artist in some way? At any rate, I have submitted this article to AFD, as I'm not sure it belongs on Wikipedia at all, and that question ought to be settled before I go to the trouble of cleaning up this mess. MrOllie (talk) 12:00, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is it a joke? After your tag I checked for some data: this article started in 2007, with more than 500 contributions by more than 200 different people. As the first comment on the talk page in 2007 was "A brief look at published works in Google Books shows that Maurice Benayoun is notable as an artist", so I played the game and checked how many now, and found more than 800 books talking about MB's work. How can you justify deleting the page? If you think it is poorly sourced ask for more sources. If you think that the wording is too flattering, point to some items or change them. This is how Wikipedia works! Now I wondered where your aggressive style of contribution comes from, I checked your talk page. Obviously, you always act the same way! It is not good for you to draw attention to it as you may be reported for harassment and disproportionate action without positive contributions. As the AFD page states: "For problems that do not require deletion, including duplicate articles, articles needing improvement, uncontested redirects, or POV problems, be bold and fix the problem". I contributed to many articles and I wouldn't like you to come and kill the work done by others instead of improving when necessary. This is totally unethical and against the collaborative spirit of Wikipedia! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.214.222.86 (talk) 07:48, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The last post by the article creator date back to 29 Jan 2007. Half a sentence remains from the last editing by this author at that time: "Benayoun conceived and directed the exhibition Cosmopolis, Overwriting the City (2005), an art and science immersive installation presented during the French Year in China" ref: https://www.digitalartarchive.at/database/general/work/cosmopolis.html? As there is no other element from this author, and many improvements have been done in this article (still more to be done) I suggest removing the "connected contributor" tag. any objection? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.2.238.238 (talkcontribs)

Are you connected to this artist? Is whomever was posting as 144.214.222.86? (I asked but they avoided answering) It seems that single purpose editors are still watching this page. - MrOllie (talk) 03:22, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
