Hang on
[edit]Hang on, people.
I will post a complete translation of my German article de:Balkanfeldzüge des Maurikios. The best is yet to come, thus removing stub-status. Hungerhahn 14:29, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Here it is, finally.

Suggestions
[edit]I have some suggestions and problems that caught my eye when I started reading. There seems to be a space between a period and a ref, also I believe that the first two sections need more references. I suggest formatting the refs into two columns using {{ref|2}}. I also think the lead should be significantly expanded. That should get you started and I wish you the best of luck.--The Dominator (talk) 06:16, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I will get going as soon as I have enough time.Tagmatarchos (talk) 18:25, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Also, another thing about the lead (see WP:LEAD) the first sentence should summarize the article title, so it should sound something like "Maurice's Balkan Campaigns were a series of military expeditions conducted by emperor Maurice in an attempt to defend the Balkan from Avars and Slavs." A lead should also summarize the entire article, not just introduce the topic and should refrain from giving new information to the reader. Effectiveness
[edit]i note that this article uses much info from Curta's great book. So how, then, have we missed his opinion that Maurice's campaigns were less than effective (the contrary to what is presented in this artile). He suggests that his campaigns were for show, and it did not stop (not did it 'intend to stop) Slavs freely roaming Imperial land. Yet the concluding few paragraphs state that Murice's "stern" defense of the Balkans had somehow pacified the Sclavenes. Hxseek (talk) 02:27, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
1. The article uses information from various sources, basically facts rather than opinions. If the Slavs roamed freely in Imperial land during Maurice's campaigns, coin hoards or signs of destruction would have clearly marked this. Curta, however speaks of reconstruction during Maurice's and possibly even Phocas' regnal years.
2.One paragraph reads: Although it is widely believed that his campaigns were only a token measure[1] and that Roman rule over the Balkans collapsed immediately after his overthrow in 602[2]. It is not Curta's sole opinion and it is not missed in the article.
3. The concluding few paragraphs do not state pacification of the Slavs. Rathermore, they state that the Avars were no longer perceived as invincible and that the Slavs threw off the Avar yoke. Tagmatarchos (talk) 16:47, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
