Fair use rationale for Image:The Courageous.jpg
[edit]Image:The Courageous.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Dubious facts
[edit]Some of the "facts" in this article seem rather dubious.
- "Now employed as a miner in Western Australia's booming mining industry." He's twelve years old!
- "A former pro surfer, Barrett only began rapping seriously when Syllaboliks came together in 1999." He's a pro surfer? Really? And he started to rap seriously when he was less than a year old?
- "In 2001 he performed at the Margaret River Masters Concert. In 2002 he performed at the Big Day Out concerts." Again, he was performing at two years of age?
I didn't remove the content, though, because it was sourced (albeit to unreliable sources, most likely), so I added the tag. David1217 What I've done 03:43, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- The problem is that there are two people that go by the name of Matty B. The first one is an Australian which for whom the article was first created and the second is the YouTube kid that you are thinking of. Unfortunately, the fans of the kid have intermingled the article together, so you get the mess that you read. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:53, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. Maybe the title should be clarified so that people don't get confused, and perhaps you could fix up the article, since I know nothing about the two. David1217 What I've done 19:11, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- The infobox says "Years active: 1999–present". It's not a date of birth! —sroc (talk) 09:57, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Former or current rapper
[edit]The lead describes Matty B as "a Australian rapper" (i.e., retired). The infobox says "Years active: 1999–present" (i.e., current). Which is it?
If he's retired from a music career, update the infobox, insert the fact in the body and provide a citation.
In the meantime, there's no reference to activity since the 2006 release of an EP, Simple but Effective, so I'm presuming that he may not be current, particularly assuming the "former" was a good faith edit. Unless anyone has anything more current, I'm removing the "present" from the infobox. —sroc (talk) 10:01, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Need a separate page and disambiguation
[edit]This is a different individual, someone who used the nickname. Matthew Barrett is Australian. The YouTube MattyB is a US singer, Matthew David Morris, about 11 years old, born 2003 in Atlanta, GA. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4313848/bio#overview Problem is that firm info on minors is slim or nonexistent, e.g. Mindless Behavior Dfoofnik (talk) 18:56, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Done - I've added a distinguish tag so hopefully the confusion should die down. –Davey2010 • (talk) 19:06, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- I believe there was a note at the beginning of the article in the past, but it did not prevent this confusion. There is an entry on the younger B on German Wikipedia, with references. Perhaps a translation (Google translate) of this article on the English site would pass muster: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MattyB. James Cage (talk) 00:44, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Personally the sources don't look great there and would probably be sent to AFD (but by all means you can try I guess).... There's always going to be confusion and other than "Not to be confused with YouTube singer MattyB." - There isn't much we can do I'm afraid. –Davey2010 • (talk) 00:58, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'll try a requested move ... Not sure it'll work but can't think of anything better right now. –Davey2010 • (talk) 01:01, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I have revised the disambiguation hatnote with an expanded description of the other MattyB based on his website (the age will automatically update); this should be sufficient to avoid confusion by humans, notwithstanding certain search engines' inability to distinguish them in automated results. In any case, the title of the current article should remain, per WP:COMMONNAME. Confused edits should also be avoided as the article is semi-protected to ward off vandalism. I wonder if we can insert a warning message at the top of the edit page to make sure the editor has the right article, but I don't know how to do this (it may be reserved for admins). —sroc 💬 11:28, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Requested move 09 October 2014

The result of the proposal was not moved. - Closing since it's became a car crash of a request and per COMMONNAME. –Davey2010 • (talk) 00:22, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
Matty B → Matthew Barrett (rapper) – rapper and singer with both the same name, My apologies for confusing everyone!. –Davey2010 • (talk) 02:46, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
For a year or 2 now there's been alot of confusion with Matty B (the rapper) and Matty B (the child singer) since both have the same name and both are from Australia,
So I propose to save alot of confusion and constant reversions we move this article to "Matthew Barrett" and create a disambiguation page for "Matty B" ...
If anyone were to create the child singer article it could always be named "Matthew Morris" I guess, Cheers, –Davey2010 • (talk) 01:09, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- I've also moved the Matthew Barrett article to "Matthew Barrett (banker)", blanked the redirect, & changed all links so they point to banker. –Davey2010 • (talk) 01:42, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- The proposed title Matthew Barrett becomes the title of the disambiguation page. The proposed title itself is ambiguous. Move to Matthew Barrett (rapper) or Matthew Barrett (singer) (or weak oppose[?]). --George Ho (talk) 02:36, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why I never thought of that in the first place ... Good idea! :) –Davey2010 • (talk) 02:42, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Disagree as per Wikipedia:Article titles#Common names, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subjects's 'official' name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." If you undertake a search for the Australia rapper almost all sources refer to him as Matty B not Matthew Barrett. Dan arndt (talk) 23:57, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- I appreciate that but when you have 2 rappers in the same area sharing the same name it is rather confusing, I've done quite a lot of searching and am only finding the child singer, Even the article refs are all dead ... –Davey2010 • (talk) 00:10, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
