  • ... that although it took until the age of 30 for triathlete Matthew Wright to win his first international competition, he went on to become an Olympian?
  • Source: British Triathlon ("NTPCW athlete Matthew Wright heads to Paris for the 2024 Olympics! ... By 2022, these efforts were beginning to pay off, with Matthew winning his first ever international race at the age of 30")

  • Article is in good shape with excellent sources cited throughout. Length is fine, and no copyright violation detected. Hook fact is verified to the cited source. My only issue is with the interestingness of the hook fact itself. Age 30 doesn't seem like a surprising age in this category of sport. According to this study ( https://extremephysiolmed.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/2046-7648-2-27 ) men's peak performance on average in the triathlon is 31.6 years of age. It would stand to reason that many men would be winning around this age in the major competitions. I don't think the age of 30 is therefore particularly surprising or hooky. Is there some other fact that might be of more interest? If there isn't a better fact, I'm not necessarily opposed to approving it if others think it is of suitable interest.4meter4 (talk) 16:19, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reference #2 says: He made triathlon part of his diverse sporting repertoire, before focusing on it fully from the age of 16. Hence, winning his first international competition after focussing solely on triathlon for 14 years might be hooky enough. Schwede66 00:11, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oi @BeanieFan11:. QPQ still needs doing.--Launchballer 12:17, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
QPQ done. @4meter4: I'm rather surprised at that statistic, to be honest, but to develop an ALT as suggested by Schwede, would the following work: ALT1 ... that although it took Matthew Wright 14 years of focusing on triathlon to win his first international competition, he later became an Olympian? This is ready to promote whenever, however @Schwede66: suggested at WT:DYK that this and Shachar Sagiv be knocked into one hook. One suggestion would be a variant of "that the triathletes competing at the 2024 Summer Olympics include a man who won his first international competition aged 30 and the brother of a former Olympian?".--Launchballer 01:09, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I should also ping @Narutolovehinata5, Zanahary, and Kingsif: - no idea how to get the IP's attention.--Launchballer 01:24, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Launchballer: I would be fine with that combined hook. I checked the Sagiv article/nom when promoting it, but if I'm going to sign off on this hook, someone else will need to add it to prep 7. Kingsif (talk) 01:28, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've 'promoted' it myself into the new hook - there's no information in my hook that hasn't been approved here or there, so I believe I'm allowed to do that. (I'm sure someone will bellyache if I'm not.) I'll leave a note at WT:DYK; further replies should go there.--Launchballer 01:46, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
