Naming of article
Shouldn't this be Matthew Perry (actor) or something? I don't know about Matthew C. Perry, but no one ever calls the actor "Matthew L. Perry" (I didn't even know his middle name until I saw this). Adam Bishop 21:15, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Dunno if there is a rule on this, but IMHO adding a "()" disambiguator is a last resort; middle initial is a better choice if available. Someone typing in "Matthew Perry" who doesn't know that it's ambiguous isn't going to be any more inclined to "Matthew Perry (actor)" than "Matthew L. Perry". Stan 16:32, 16 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Sentence doesn't make sense

Infobox
Is the infobox really necessary? I'm not a fan of information being doubled up in articles and there is nothing in that infobox that isn't already in the article. --195.93.21.135 07:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

can we please have a better photo of perry? that picture is really horrible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.110.189 (talk) 00:26, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Klinjon - "I have a much better photo of Matthew Perry, it's a close up promotional shot of his character from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but Wikipedia left me a message stating that I have to tag the image I have for licensing purposes, or something like that. Can anyone tell me how to do this so the picture that is currently displayed can be changed to the one I have? I agree that the current is horrible; Perry has been clean for a good 2 years now, and I could even go as far as saying that the person who uploaded the current image doesn't think particularly highly of him, which isn't fair on a wikipedia article as it is supposed to be unbiased." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Klinjon (talk • contribs) 23:40, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Where's the proof Klinjon. As long as he is still smoking that picture should stay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.111.103.193 (talk) 10:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well now we have a partially blurred picture of a Ben Affleck lookalike, which is also flipped according to its talk page. And might it be better to use a non-smoking pic, unless he's particularly known for it (as far as I know, he isn't). Phyte 22:54, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Certainly better pictures are out there, especialy a cast photo from Friends or something? He was probably the funniest member of the cast and he's given this crummy, blurry, smoking picture of him all disheveled and stuff? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.30.123.115 (talk) 14:11, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

- Could somebody either remove/change the picture. It's horrible according to the last point. How would an actor/actress feel having an awful picture of themselves on Wikipedia. They wouldn't like that at all. That is so cruel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.221.66 (talk) 11:45, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I just deleted the photo because it is just disgraceful. I believe that until there is a suitable, just photo of Matthew Perry, we should leave the 'image box' empty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.110.216 (talk) 06:06, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's not a bad picture - in fact I think he looks younger (and more trim) than he did in the last few seasons of Friends. He is known as a smoker - he's said it in a few interviews I've seen - and it certainly wouldn't shock any Friends fans since his character was often seen smoking. --Tuzapicabit (talk) 16:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Trivia sections are by definition unencyclopedic and effort must be made to incorporate entries from these sections into other sections of the article. I have now removed info about him being an Ottawa Senators fan from trivia three times - the first time by transplanting it to the personal life section and the second and third times by removing it because foolish people can't cast their eyes up one line and see it in an encyclopedic section. If anyone can give a reason for including content twice, please say so here. And do not use this as an opportunity to bawl and cry at me and say I need to register a user account so you won't think I'm a vandal. Do not use this as an opportunity to say that the tone I am taking will result in a banning. Just accept that trivia sections are unencyclopedic. Weight gain/loss
The Personal section mentions that he lost a lot of weight in season 7 of Friends, but I seem to remember it as earlier than that - there's one (perhaps season 4?) where he appears quite deathly thin. Then later (perhaps season 8 or 9?) he's suddenly ballooned and his face looks very bloated. Someone more in the know would probably be able to certify which seasons exactly, but it was very noticeable (to the point of distraction while watching).--Tuzapicabit (talk) 16:25, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- This was due to his alcohol/drug addictions and subsequent rehab stints - there's nothing mentioned about it on this page, I think there should be. He's been very open about it since. Marthiemoo (talk) 10:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

One Step Beyond The Outer Limits of The Twilight Zone, or I Find This To Be Weird. (Not quite Babblefish weird though.)
Hello, Wikipedia People!
I've been looking for a way to share this information and perhaps this method and place are it. (Now that I know how to do this.)
But anyway, here's my observation. Out of all of the actors, as opposed to actresses, out there that they could have hired to portray one of their characters, they hire Mister Perry, and then assign to him the character of Mister Bing.
Then that character is sent to work in Tulsa, Oklahoma for awhile. (Not to digress to much, but the statue of the "Golden Driller" is outside of the "Tulsa Expo Building", not an office building. It was built as an oil rig assembly factory, by the way.)
What's so strange, ironic, or weird about this is that, there is a "Matthew, Oklahoma". There is a "Perry, Oklahoma". There is a "Chandler, Oklahoma", and there is a "Byng, Oklahoma" that albeit isn't "Bing", it still sounds the same. A moment ago I just saw that his middle name is, "Langford". Whew! If it had been, "Langston", that might have been over the top! Oh, and I just double checked. There isn't a listing for a "Muriel" either, so the two middle names make the exception to the rule.
I'm not an odds maker, but gee, what are the odds that, that would happen? Now that's one BIG serendipity event! LeoStarDragon1 (talk) 05:28, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
New Vegas Voice Work
Can anyone give me the source for the information regarding this? I've never seen Benny refered to as "Benny Gecko" anywhere else. Thanks. Raymorn (talk) 04:12, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- There's a Wikipedia article on the game, but I don't see any reference to Gecko, just Benny, so I removed Gecko from the Perry article. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Picture
Can someone find a royalty free picture of Matthew Perry? The only reason being is that this picture makes Perry look like a drug addict. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomv19 (talk • contribs) 21:19, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Go On
I've been trying to add a link to Go On (TV series), which Perry will star in, but Bbb23 seems to think it is "premature" to add it into the table of television work. May I ask why this is? The pilot has been produced, the series is picked up, and it is certain to air (probably in August this year). Other Wikipedia articles have film and television works listed for programs/films that have not aired yet (like, for example, Olivia Wilde, and Go On is listed in the text section of this article anyway. It will need to be added to the table eventually, so why revert my edits until a time when Bbb23 sees fit? (And when will that time be? Not until it premieres?) Would like some explanation, please... -- Tvwatchdog (talk) 23:44, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- There's a clear practice at Wikipedia of not including films in a filmography until they are in production. The practice with respect to television is less clear. Usually, with respect to episodes of an existing series, as soon as someone can find anything on it, whether it's aired or not, they stick it in the episode list. I don't agree with that practice, but I think I'm probably in a minority. With respect to a new series, as here, I think we have to exercise a bit more caution about putting the material in the table when it's not even slated to air for many months, which is why I removed it. Leaving it in the body is fine, both with respect to films and television - that's because we can provide more context in the body than we can in a table, so it's not as objectionable, even though it forecasts events that have not yet happened.
- All that said, if other editors disagree with me, I'll abide by any consensus on the issue.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:58, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I can see where you're coming from. I'm new here, but personally, it make sense to put it in the table because a) the pilot has already been produced, and b) it definitely will air some time this year. But now that I think about it, I don't really mind too much. -- Tvwatchdog (talk) 00:10, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
- Heh, well you may be new, but your attitude (regardless of which one of us is "right") shows very good judgment. In any event, I'm still open to different views from mine. Regards.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:25, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Weird sentence?
The sentence "In 2010 he expanded his resume to include both video games and voiceover ..." is poorly worded. It makes him sound like a high school student or something who gets a low-wage job purely for the sake of work experience rather than anything else.
A simpler solution is: "In 2010, he worked as a voice actor in the video game Fallout: New Vegas." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.229.238.37 (talk) 03:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Best TV Show Matthew Perry was in
Matthew Perry has been in a lot of shows and movies. In my opinion, Matthew Perry has had the best role in Friends. His role Chandler Bing is not just the nice looking one but he is one of the funniest person on Friends. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:680:c780:324f:8831:d793:a0b6:97e7 (talk) 04:15, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Straight to Matthew Perry (Disambiguation)
I am not familiar with general wiki rules, But Matthew C Perry is probably just as famous and certainly more important than this one (Based on my own totally subjective views). I feel like if there are two equally well known people with the same name it should go straight Disambiguous page. Or as a last resort, stick a link to Matthew C Perry's page (not the disamb page) at the top to let people know that there was a super important historical guy with the same now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.188.56 (talk) 00:20, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- You bring up some good points. Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC these are some of the (but not the only) criteria used to determine the primary topic:
Criteria Matthew Perry Matthew C. Perry Incoming wikilinks 427 319 Article traffic (last 90 days) 299,938 39,226 Google hits "Matthew Perry" actor = 502,000
"Matthew Perry" Friends = 2,290,000"Matthew Perry" commodore = 1,310,000
- I'd say the actor has the edge over the commodore, but not by a lot. Your suggestion for a hatnote to Matthew C. Perry is a good one. Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:48, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Why is this Matthew Perry the default?
I just spent 20 minutes trying to remember the name of the US officer who established relations with Japan, only to eventually realize I had it right and wikipedia was directing me to an actor of the same name. Commodore Perry is a much more notable figure in history, and has a longer and more informative article than the article. If nothing else, there should be a link from the actor's page to the Commodore's page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.154.208.205 (talk) 19:57, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- There's a disambiguation link at the top of the article.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:59, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that Matthew C. Perry is way more deserving of the default entry for the name than some actor. I'm not American, and I ask others to put themselves in the position of not having grown up with the 'Friends' series - say, consider whether you'd similarly prioritise an actor from a 1970s show. Let's stick with durable notability. Onanoff (talk) 18:18, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
