Entry order
[edit]I've changed the order per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Disambiguation_pages#Misspellings. --NeilN talk to me 21:55, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Steel1943, the discussion was already here. The other names are not variations of the proper name. NielN is not a variation, it is a misspelling. --NeilN talk to me 20:54, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- @NeilN: I see what you are saying now. I was under the belief that this page served as a "disambiguation fork" for all variations of the "Matt Schultz" name (which is what I have essentially turned it into.) What I essentially did was redirected all of the variations to Matt Schultz (disambiguation) as a concept page. If you think that this is not a wise option, I'm open to reverting some of these edits as I have not formed any concrete opinions about them yet. Steel1943 (talk) 21:10, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Steel1943, I would probably undo those. It may be confusing when a user is directed to a page with the incorrect spelling at the top when they have entered the name correctly. See Gandy for example. --NeilN talk to me 21:19, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- @NeilN: the only worry/concern I have prior to undoing my edits is that while I was doing these edits, I noticed that one of the titles, Matt Shultz, redirected to a title with a disambiguated title, Matt Shultz (singer). I wonder if there was any reasoning behind that, or if that was a result of a move that wasn't done properly in the first place? Steel1943 (talk) 21:32, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Steel1943, how can I put this carefully? The user who did the moves probably had a specific agenda in mind and didn't bother to do things properly or to fix what was broken. --NeilN talk to me 21:39, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- @NeilN: I just had a moment to trace that move: the way you worded it sounds very possible. At this point, I consent to my page moves being reversed (the articles on this page that did not have a disambiguator in their title until I moved them), and I plan on tagging all of the "(disambiguation)" redirects pointing towards this page with {{Db-g7}} tags. Steel1943 (talk) 21:48, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Steel1943, thanks, very decent of you. I did look for other disamb pages before reordering this one (e.g., John Stuart) and all of them separated out the "correct" spellings. --NeilN talk to me 22:06, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Requested move

The result of the move request was: Withdrawn by nominator. When this move request was transferred from WP:RM/TR, the request's reasoning seemed to have been lost in translation so bad that I really don't even care about this move anymore. Steel1943 (talk) 15:00, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Matt Schultz (disambiguation) → Matt Schultz
- Matt Schulz (drummer) → Matt Schulz
- Matt Shultz (singer) → Matt Shultz
- Matt Schulze (actor) → Matt Schulze
– Unnecessary disambiguation in the title as the ambiguous title redirects to the title with a disambiguator. Steel1943 (talk) 22:06, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose: These 4 names as without the disambiguators are spelled very similarly and are liable to be confused. Keep these disambiguators. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:14, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Weak support. Although I get the concern that these names are similar, every name in Wikipedia has a name that is the most similar to it. If there is only one Matt Schulz, and that person is the drummer, people looking for the drummer are likely to look for Matt Schulz. If they are careless and add an extra "t" somewhere, then they will learn to be more careful. bd2412 T 23:23, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - malformed RM. I take it this is proposing delete the dab, but the template is set up to move dab over the most notable, Matt Schultz = Matt Schultz (politician). In any case we should keep the dab. de:Schulze (village headman from the old office of Schultheiß) is rather untypical in being a title/name with so many variants. I doubt any of the readers searching for any of 4 articles could reiterate which is the correct spelling for each. At the very least the dab needs to be kept. - Oppose With 2 mins work, I added three entries. More than enough of this exact spelling to justify dab. I agree that there isn't a need for a disambiguator if each article has a hatnote to the dab, but the malformed moves are a mess at the moment. Boleyn (talk) 13:41, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Requested move 2

The result of the move request was: withdrawn by nominator ... again. Since Matt Schultz (politician) was moved over Matt Schultz in this diff, this move request is now malformed. (When I had opened up this discussion, Matt Schultz redirected to Matt Schultz (disambiguation).) At this point, I'm going to close this request. Steel1943 (talk) 14:06, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Matt Schultz (disambiguation) → Matt Schultz – Basically, per WP:DABNAME, but I have posted this as a formal move request due to a related move request I withdrew. Steel1943 (talk) 16:14, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support, since additional matching names have been identified, and there is no clear primary topic among them. bd2412 T 16:55, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. One Matt Schultz, one Matthew Schultz, and some spelling variant; served appropriately with each at the common name and hatnoted to the dab. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:30, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
