The result of the move request was: Moved — Amakuru (talk) 18:04, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
Mathematics in India → Mathematics in India (book) – Indian mathematics is the primary topic here, with 100x the page views of this book, and a clear lead in long-term significance. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 03:20, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- Keep as is, do not move. The choices are (1) the status quo, "Mathematics in India" pointing to the book, with a hatnote on the book article pointing to Indian mathematics, or (2) the proposed move, with "Mathematics in India" redirecting to Indian mathematics, and a hatnote on the Indian mathematics article pointing to the book. Either way, we get a hatnote because (per WP:2DABS) there are not enough other link targets to make a full disambiguation page. So at the end of the day what this proposal really will end up doing is to move the hatnote from this article to the Indian mathematics article. Although the move would certainly bring more attention to the book article through the moved hatnote, I think it's less disruptive to readers to have the hatnote here on an out-of-the-way page than at the top of a more central page like Indian mathematics. —David Eppstein (talk) 05:10, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- You're assuming that either one or the other article will be the primary topic. But as 2DABS itself makes clear, that won't always be the case. If neither of the two topics is primary, then a disambiguation page gets created, even if it's going to contain only two entries. – Uanfala (talk) 10:03, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- But the whole argument for the move is based on Indian mathematics being primary. If neither article is primary, there is also no reason for a move. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:28, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- If no article is primary, this means the primary title should be occupied by a dab page. But currently, the primary title is occupied not by a dab page, but by this article. So, if it's decided here that there is no primary topic, then two things will need to happen: moving this article to a disambiguated title (say, Mathematics in India (book), as proposed by the nom), and turning Mathematics in India into a dab page. – Uanfala (talk) 20:01, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

- Support Indian mathematics is far and away the primary topic. Not even sure this book is notable enough for its own Wikipedia page. It only cites reviews of itself. Walrasiad (talk) 14:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- Those reviews are multiple in-depth independent reliable secondary sources about the subject, making it notable per GNG. And your argument does not address my point about the move forcing the addition of a hatnote to the Indian mathematics article, which would be more awkward than merely having this article here under this title. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:28, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- They're all just reviews from academic journals. That's pretty normal for any academic book. Unless Wikipedia plans to make separate articles for each entry in the catalog of academic book publishers, there's still no indication that this book has any particular notability. Definitely not primary topic. As to having a hatnote, well, that's better than the current situation. Walrasiad (talk) 17:15, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support. Clearly not the primary topic for mathematics in India. I'm not sure it should be a redirect to Indian mathematics, as the topic is wider than just that, but it certainly should be a disambiguation page. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:45, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. I don't think the "Mathematics in India" is a very plausible search term for Indian mathematics, and there aren't other competing topics, so we might as well leave the setup alone. I don't see that we will improve navigation much, and we're basically speculating about readers' habits. No such user (talk) 11:16, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

- Support move and redirect. Dicklyon (talk) 04:39, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- supportwhen I hear "Mathematics in India", "Indian mathematics" is the first thing that comes to mind, not some book. I would also support converting "Mathematics in India" into a redirect to "Indian mathematics". If that happens, I am willing to handle all the link-changes. But I need to update the links before the actual page-move. Kindly ping me if that's the case. —usernamekiran • sign the guestbook • (talk) 03:31, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran: I plan on closing this discussion in favour of the move. Please update the links and ping me when finished. –MJL ‐Talk‐☖ 17:10, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
