This article contains a translation of Mas (construction) from fr.wikipedia. |
I've never heard it pronounced 'mah' in either the Luberon or the Camargue. Mas is pronounced like the English 'mass' surely.
You're absolutely correct. I checked with some native Provencaux here in Toulon, and they confirm that the 's' is pronounced. I've changed the text. SiefkinDR (talk) 17:42, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- In Provence, where the word originated, the final *s* is pronounced: mas, similar to English pronunciation of *mass*. Frania W. (talk) 18:58, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
The American pronounciation of 'mass' (as in Massachusetts, for instance) is a little different than the way the Provencaux say 'mas', so I suggest for clarity it be compared with 'mahs.'
- What my ears hear is... mass. Remember that a mas (pr. = mass) is in Provence, not in the Parisian region. FW/Frania W. (talk) 21:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- SiefkinDR, Why the *h* in the pronunciation you are giving for mas, which sounds exactly like the Spanish grammatical conjunction *más*. There is a commune in the Ariège department of France that is called Le Mas-d'Azil, with final pronounced, again, the Spanish *más*. Frania W. (talk) 01:21, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
