The Newark Factory Fire
[edit]I’m a relative and unofficial biographer of MAH. My presentation “The Only Daughter of the Lonely Princess of Bangor” was first presented to the Samuel Johnson Society in Lichfield England in 2009 at the 300th birthday celebration for Dr Johnson. Her 1st big break was: 1910 Newark Factory Fire Article by Mary Alden Hopkins published April 1911 McClure's Magazine" Volume 36, Number 6 It has been available in its entirety online at: https://www.oldnewark.com/histories/factoryfirearticle.php By fortunate coincidence the more infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire took place March 25 1911. It may have prompted MAH’s being published weeks later. Regardless, it resulted in her appointment to the NY Legislature’s Factory Investigating Commission.
