Merge discussion
[edit]Martuni Province within territories of non-recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan) has to be merged to the article Martuni Rayon due to the following reasons:
- this province was created based on the Martuni Rayon, which was one of the five rayons of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (AzSSR).[1][2];
- non-recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan, therefore the definition used by Azerbaijan SSR and currently Azerbaijan Republic prevails definition used by self-proclaimed NKR; 195.212.29.186 (talk) 14:08, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- First, let's establish one thing: Whether or not the NKR is part of Azerbaijan, this article is about the NKR division and thus Azerbaijan has no bearing on it. The NKR can claim to divide its claimed territory any way it wants, and that's fine, that's enough to get an article. The Confederate States of America were never recognized as independent, yet we have an article on their Arizona Territory. So, based on that, articles on the NKR divisions deserve to stand.
- Having an article on the divisions of the NKR neither confers legitimacy upon them, nor does it take away the fact that we have articles on the Azeri divisions in the same area. No matter how much the NKR might be part of Azerbaijan, that doesn't change the fact that the proclaimed NKR government has made these divisions, and they can call and define them however they want. Same deal with Azerbaijan and its divisions.
- So, the only question becomes, is the Province of the NKR the same as the Rayon of the NKAO? I would say no. The two don't even have the same borders, and they are different types of divisions in a different type of nation. Furthermore, if we merge this, what about the provinces that weren't part of the NKAO? We would end up having some articles that are devoted to the NKR provinces, and some articles that are divided between the NKR provinces and NKAO rayons. Would they be named after the rayon or the province?
- So I oppose this merge.
- Protip: You don't need to say twice times in three sentences that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is recognized as part of Azerbaijan. We know. We're not idiots. --Golbez (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose merge, they are different entities. Derianus (talk) 19:01, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
