Gypsy?
[edit]According to Gypsy (1962 film), Marni Nixon didn't dub for Natalie Wood in Gypsy. I can hardly imagine that Nixon dubbed for Wood in the film, because the singing voice of the character doesn't sound like the one of a trained singer. I liked the voice, but it wasn't as strong as Nixon's. Natalie Wood did her own singing in the film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.166.96.61 (talk) 15:00, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- The refs are not consistent, but they seem to agree that she provided some high notes. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:02, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Infobox - # of children, names of children, etc
[edit]I do not understand why this particular article has attracted so much attention about its Infobox, but how about we discuss the issues here before any more reversions? I don't understand why the # of children should be eliminated from this particular article, so would appreciate someone explaining to me the reasoning (with appropriate WP guidelines/policies/etc). Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 18:40, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- The number of children is stated clearly in the appropriate place in the article, however it is not such an important point that it should go in the infobox.
None of the children is notable.Infoboxes are not required in articles anyhow, so if you prefer, I would be happy to eliminate the infobox, which is redundant and contains only information that is already noted elsewhere in the article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:48, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- If it were up to me, I would rip the whole box out let alone the non notable children! Cassiantotalk 19:11, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Of course infoboxes are not required but I've always thought when they are present they were included as a courtesy to our general readership, to summarize an article. But about eliminating all mention of her children from the Infobox...what about Andrew Gold?
- In the meantime, I thought we were presently discussing whether or not to change this article's Infobox from its previously-accepted status of having some information about Miss Nixon's children (#/names/linkage) to the recently-introduced no information at all.
- Cripes, I feel like I've just stepped into a hornet's nest. I've had this article on my watchlist for ages, adding refs and fixing vandalism...obviously there is now in evidence some strong feelings about having an Infobox on this article at all from some interested editors (I suppose because of Miss Nixon's association with the classical music and opera world?) In my opinion, Miss Nixon appears to be more well-known for her work as a playback singer, for her roles in musical theater, and for her TV/film acting work than she is for her work in opera. Please do not misinterpret me on this...I am not disparaging her opera performances or recordings!, I am merely saying that she is more well-known, more notable - for her work as the singer behind Deborah Kerr/Audrey Hepburn/Natalie Wood, for her appearances on Broadway/Off-Broadway and in National Tours, for her work voicing 'Grandma Fa in Disney's Pocahontas, for her children's TV show, for her many acting roles on TV - than she is for the part of her career in opera, oratorios, concerts, and symphony appearances. Whatever the editorial consensus is about including/not-including/trimming-down an Infobox in this article, I'm fine with that. Shearonink (talk) 20:18, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Like you, I have worked on this article off and on over the years. When people see this article, the information that they see first should not be that she had three children. She was not notable for her children, she was notable because she was a famous voice actress who dubbed some of the most memorable roles in movie musicals. So, my primary suggestion is to leave the information about her children out of the infobox, as it gives a misleading impression. For the same reason, I don't see why we mention her spouses in the infobox, and once you remove them, then why have the infobox at all? If we removed the box, we could increase the size of the lead image slightly. But if the box stays, I feel most strongly about removing the mention of the children from the infobox, as I think it is clearly the wrong way to introduce the article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:53, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
