Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group is part of the crime of genocide according to the Genocide Convention

[edit]

The article currently says, "Lvova-Belova is said to supervise the mass kidnapping of orphaned children from Mariupol and other Ukrainian places in the full-out war of Russia on Ukraine in 2022." The following should be added:

Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group is part of the crime of genocide according to the Genocide Convention.

Article II In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Indeed it is, but a Wikipedia article is probably not the place to opine on this. Of course if there's a credible source for a third party sharing this opinion, this can be cited. Ragnagord (talk) 19:01, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it certainly is, and there are RS [1]. Main point here is that Russian children rights commissioner is allegedly a kidnapper. This is a long-standing tradition, i.e. Robert Conquest has described the entire Soviet system as "a set of phantom institutions and arrangements which put a human face on the hideous realities: a model constitution adopted in a worst period of terror and guaranteeing human rights, elections in which there was only one candidate, and in which 99 percent voted; a parliament at which no hand was ever raised in opposition or abstention."[1] My very best wishes (talk) 05:47, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Elizaveta Glinka

[edit]

@Mellk: If Elizaveta Glinka really was a "humanitarian worker", I don't see why we should link her article from this one. This article is about a person who has been indicted for crimes against humanity by a neutral international court. That's why I think we should use a neutral caption for the link, i.e. "medical doctor". Second best solution would be to remove the newly added link. Rsk6400 (talk) 13:20, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would just remove it, not sure when it was added. And from what I am aware of it is a war crime charge. Mellk (talk) 13:26, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was added on 19 March, I just removed it. Thanks. Rsk6400 (talk) 13:36, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did not see this discussion on talk. Why this can/should be included? Simply per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#"See_also"_section, i.e. this is a page on related topic, i.e. transferring Ukrainian children by Russian public personalities to Russia. Yes, two of them have been indicted, but a lot of others did not. I am not making a moral judgement here about anyone. These are simply related pages. Meaning that a reader who reads this page might be also interested in reading the page about Elizaveta Glinka, and we provide them such opportunity. Glinka is known mostly as a political activist, not a doctor. My very best wishes (talk) 03:54, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Glinka and Lvova-Belova are indeed related subjects. They are connected together in a number of RS, for example [2],[3],[4],[5]. My very best wishes (talk) 04:06, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to first source, "In 2015, the scale of Russian kidnappings of Ukrainian minors significantly increased. One of the largest programs of children relocation was organized by Russian charity celebrity Yelizaveta Glinka....". And so it goes. Glinka was basically a pioneer of this business. She died while flying with Russian Army to Syria. My very best wishes (talk) 04:23, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to 2nd source [6],
Glinka arranged the "first transfer" of 13 Ukrainian children from occupied Donetsk to Russia in December 2014 and requested Putin to "amend the country's legislation to allow relocations of Ukrainian children from Donbas to Russia on the pretext of providing medical assistance." Russian state-controlled media outlet TASS claimed in 2017 that Glinka transferred 500 kids from Donbas in 2.5 years. According to the study, Glinka "effectively established a state-sponsored system of Ukrainian children's transfers to Russia." "This system is nowadays being used by Russia's current Presidential Commissioner for Children's rights Maria Lvova-Belova…"
.
Hence, she is credited with establishing "a state-sponsored system of Ukrainian children's transfers to Russia", which is nowadays used by Lvova-Belova. My very best wishes (talk) 16:03, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My opposition is not against adding Glinka, but against calling somebody who kidnaps children a "(controversial) humanitarian worker". I just added some text about Lvova-Belova's role in that "program", and am planning to add a sentence about Glinka's role in its first stages, drawing on the sources you gave above. Any thoughts ? Yes, sure, but I think this content mostly belong to page Child abductions in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It should include some "History" and Glinka belongs there. My very best wishes (talk) 15:03, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I finished my addition on Glinka a few minutes after you made your comment. If you want to change something feel free to do so. Rsk6400 (talk) 15:21, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I fixed it. My very best wishes (talk) 15:47, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. Thanks. Rsk6400 (talk) 15:54, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
