Anyone editing this page should read Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computer_and_Video_Games so that in the future, perhaps this article can join that project. -- Prod-Me 03:15, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Anyone who wants to work on character guides should go to the wikibooks section. The link is at the bottom of the article in the External Links section. -- Prod-Me 21:35, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

The Maple World

This article is once again starting to get big. At the moment the largest section seems to be The Maple World. I havent properly read through it, but it seems like it could be shortened. Either that or we move it into its own page. --Prod-You 22:30, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Fan Site's and guilds

It seems someone has been editing "Sleepywood.net" the largest fansite and "ohana" the largest guild in maple story. Please whoever you are dont edit them out it's annoying.

This is an encyclopedia, not a collection of guild website spam. --212.149.180.105 23:04, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
Agreed --209.193.46.108 23:12, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
I do believe sleepywood is a good enough website to keep simply because it is one of the largest and most popular forums for MapleStory players. OTOH, guild websites have such a small user base (<100) that they shouldnt be included. -- Prod-Me 02:09, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

This Article Is a Disgrace

Glad to see someone made the article a complete bragging fest of people posting thier characters screeshots, when they contributed little to nothing to the actual article. Secondly, the 4th Job advancement has not come out, and it makes it look completely unorganized. This isnt an informative article anymore, its a show off competition. I wipe my hands clean of this article, Peace. -Phantom

The bragging was expected as soon as the pictures were added to the character class section. I think you're just a bit annoyed with all the vandalism, and that your character is kinda low level compared to all the others :P. However, this article still has good info in it and the only way for it to get better is if good editors help keep it clean ;);) -- Prod-Me 02:06, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
I personally think the pictures should be removed, they don't really add anything to the article. The detailed character descriptions might also be better to be moved to wikibooks. --212.149.180.105 11:30, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Whoever remade the Article with no character classes did a VERY good job, perfectly done. Kudos.--IphantomI 13:13, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Thank you :) You can still find them at MapleStory character classes -- Prod-Me 13:28, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Glad that the character classes are gone, but people are still replacing images on the character classes section of the page. I guess not much can be done about that...CMyst

Er, sorry, not impressed with the character screenshots...If you think you're such a high-level, think again. Wanna post screenshots? Don't add ones that you think show you in action, battling monsters with er, supposedly 'impressive' strength. Raylena 19:20, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Gameplay Section Discussion

Looking at the descritions of each skill looks somewhat strange. I'm pretty sure the info about what each stat raises comes from the formulae from A Drop of Maple. I think it would be better if we just put up a section about any formulas we can find out about the game instead of saying it in words (with references of course.....) --Prod-Me 20:23, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

I cleaned up the stat point section getting rid of that a little/lot stuff and kept only the major info. The rest isn't that useful and can be found from the formulas. -- Prod-Me 14:35, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

The character classes - Cleric section was biased. It says Holy Arrow sucks and doesn't talk about it otherwise. Fixed.

Removed false statement that STR Bandits inherently have higher minimum damage than LUK Bandits. -Shaolin Samurai

Rewrite...

I just rewrote large parts of the article. I removed several things from this page, including tips and character guides. I feel there's no need for such things here on Wikipedia, but if someone finds the necessary, by all means, put them back in. -- 80.203.139.70 13:02, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Just redirect users to Sleepywood which is the most popular fan forum on maple story. Check the external links section in the arcticle.
~mandraken from maple story
If you take out information from Wikipedia it should be because the information is 1) duplicated or 2) has errors. Taking it out because "there's no need for -such things-" is personal oppinion. Please don't. Either update or clarify. Removal for personal reasons is vandalization.
There is also the fact that wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Things can be removed if they are unencyclopedic. Also, this original post is from almost 3 months ago, i think you are refering to a more recent edit. I noticed someone had written up some character "guides" that were deleted soon after. There is a section (lower down) specifically "discussing" whether or not to include those. The person who wrote those guides should have quickly checked the talk page before spending a lot of time on a guide. Finally, if you want to be that pedantic about it, please sign your comments :-). Prod-Me
That person was me, and I feel the stats should be right there for everyone to see. It brings the reader into the world of MS.
~lpHantOml
Added a small bit of information regarding EXP loss, and edited the "official English name" of Ludia to Ludibrium, as the maps already translated and inserted use Ludibrium as their super-name.

Talk Page Reorganization

I tried to clean up this talk page a bit, hopefully made it easier to use. I fixed up some of the formatting/spelling, moved the character guide stuff together and got rid of some of the older info that i felt was unnecessary or redundant. If you disagree, please bring back the info you feel was useful. -- Prod-Me 23:18, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

MediaWiki supports subpages (if it is enabled in a namespace). Instead of writing
[[{{NAMESPACE}}: PageName| link text]]
mandraken, one can write
[[/PageName | link text]]
mandraken edits. That will create PageName as a subpage of the current page. This is like the Unix path system. Apparently any depth of pages may be created. You can even refer to pages using the parent (../) convention. Using the subpage feature will be helpful in the article section which is too big now!
Sweet, thats gonna be definately useful for the main page. Id say the first thing that should go into one of those is the in depth character information, just keeping the thing about what exist and what levels are required. Of course that just adds a few more pages to watch the history of :/. I was actually thinking of doing something like this, but more in the way that the Hinduism article does it, using things like
{{main|Vaishnavism}}
-- Prod-Me 18:14, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Which convention will we follow? Namespace? subpages, subpages with links, or that main article example you put? ~Mandraken
I was just looking through the article on subpages and it says not to use subpages. Apparently theyre only for drafts and talk page histories :P When you say Namespace, what do you mean? -- Prod-Me 12:37, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Moved the character classes info to MapleStory character classes -- Prod-Me 13:28, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Fixed syntax errors in Character Classes and other mistakes. Took out opinions like "Holy Arrow sucks" and "Clerics are awesome" and "Bandits are really cool even if they loose(?) strength".

Scams

More info on the various scams has been requested. There have been a few edits talking about scamming so far but they have disappeared. Perhaps someone can go through the edits and bring some of the info back. Prod-Me

Watch for some person posting a site concerning 'free game hacks and bots, etc' and advertising their site on wikipedia, i haven't visited the site, no idea if it has hacks or not, but its against the moral standpoint of MS, so should be removed anyway.
There's no problem with writing about the scams - that's encyclopedic and factual. However, linking to some site offering scams is not appropriate. Enochlau 11:02, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
I guess i should say that info on how to avoid the various scams is requested -- Prod-Me 21:23, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
Not necessarily. I don't quite think that tips on how to play games is appropriate on Wikipedia, considering that they can be quite subjective. Just a factual description of what they are might be enough. Enochlau 23:18, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
I changed the title to "Game Issues" since botting is included, and botting is definitely not a form of scam. This also opens up the section to discussion about hacking, which was prominent in Beta and still exists to some degree in the Official service.

Price Guide

Do we need to add a price guide to this page

You don't have to do all the work. Sleepywood on the external links has the common builds for the 4 main character types. The prices of ores depends on The Law of Supply and Law of Demand. If you need a quick references of prices of equipement, weapons, scrolls, and other things in the game, visit Hidden Street on the article external link section which gives a good database of items, quests, and maps.

~mandraken from maple story

Also, prices change quite fast, like once i bought a red tube for 80,000mesos, and in just 2 weeks it was 20,00mesos! If the item is a low level, or can be found being sold by many players, it is likely

That it will go cheaper, of corse if it is a speicial item that can be found rarely the price will be stable. It also matters when the itm first came out and its new and all that, but after a while players start to relise that its stats arnt that great. Like the blue umbrella it was 400,000mesos and now people can buy it for like 80k. So if you are buying a item that has been newly added to maple, its stats arent that great, you can wait and buy it when its cheap. this is a great skill for maple players, determining when and what items will go up or go down in price.

~SwiftPanda from maplestory

What to Clean/Keep

fan sites

My opinion is that these should be kept in their own heading under external links, get rid of them as they die, but keep them somewhere Prod-Me

A recent edit by someone mentions that some of the fan sites put up only had like 10 members. Lets try to stick to fan sites with a major community already established. This isnt the place to advertise. Prod-Me

Unconventional Characters

Character Skill List (not guide)

I think that these should be listed, possibly with pictures (copyright?) and descriptions. There are websites with this info, perhaps only a link is enough (though i think the actual info would be better). We shouldn't go in depth into what each point in each skill does, but I think a list of whats there would be nice. However, im not sure if that is still considered encyclopediec (no i cant spell :P) Prod-Me

Mandraken noted that "...the official web page has the desciptions of the skills for all the jobs in Maple Story. Listing here would be pointless when the official site already has them."

Character Equips

Similar reasoning as skills, though there are so many it would be a waste of space to put them here.....link is probably good enough Prod-Me

Beta Global Maple Story still works

What do people think wizet does with beta global maple story? Do any of the official global maple players still go back to beta?

Why does beta still work? What does wizet do with it? They shut down Beta Global East, but kept Beta Global West. There people in beta that still play. The players in there ask if they can have any of the high characters I have. So, there is a purpose for beta and not just for wizet to ticker with. Please, don't delete a topic discussion until you make it clear why you deleted it. ~mandraken from maple story

Title of Article

Should this be called MapleStory instead? On the game's website, it's always spelt without the space, and staff sign with "MapleStory staff" on the news. Enochlau 06:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Yea you are right. I looked through the website and it always refers to it as MapleStory. One thing to consider before changing the name is that the wikibooks link probably will break if the name is changed -- Prod-Me 12:08, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
That should be ok - we should be able to move the wikibooks article, or failing that, put a redirect in place. Enochlau 14:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Criticisms of Wizet

I removed this section from Wizet. It is blatantly non-neutral, but perhaps it's relevant to this article.

It has been theorized by many Maplers, especially those among the hacking community, that Wizet employee's, especially Gamemasters, do not do their jobs well. This is a full blown lie. The GMs do their jobs, but some hackers come into the game undetected.

squell 01:43, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

I agree with getting rid of it on many levels.....mainly because none of it can be proven...... -- Prod-Me 02:10, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with MapleStory, but player dissatisfaction seems a common feature in MMORPGs. That doesn't necesarily mean unjustified. If there are some issues that people should know about (for example, if the GMs do not respond adequately to abusive behaviour), then this is worth mentioning in the article. Using a neutral point of view, of course. squell 02:54, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
There is nothing extraordinary about the GM's for this game, but there is nothing lacking either. AFAIK they arent online all the time, but users of programs that are against the ToS do get banned, after theyve been reported. -- Prod-Me 04:41, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

Article needs NPOV?

I read though the article and realise that some content (espically the lubibrium quests and cash shop) seem a bit too personal (written in first rather then in third person) for an encycopedia entry, espcially the guide for how to sucessfully go through the quests. Should be be modified to give a better NPOV?

Are you using NPOV to refer to a bias in this article or just to the "personal" parts?68.62.22.45 20:31, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Cash Shop False Statement?

"Players who are not able to afford these items due to real life monetary constraints, would trade the in-game currency, mesos, for the Cash Shop items." Where is the proof of this? Cause as far as I know, CS items are only bought with real money. --Antoshi 05:48, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Cash shop items are only "officially" buyable with real cash, however some people dont want to spend real money on a game so they will make a deal with someone and say they will pay a certain amount of meso for a cash shop item. The person would send the item as a gift, and the reciever would give meso in a trade. Doing this is actually against the MS rules and you can be banned for doing this. Prod-Me 14:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

You are totally right, Prod. Actually, I think the gift system will get canclled because of those cheaters. Otherwise, I also think that if Wizet and NX GAMES don't want people to buy Cash shop items with mesos they should allow us to buy cash with credit card as Visa and Master Card, and not only via PayPal! Royee the MAN!

It's harder to do so when Wizet has an international crowd to consider, so be patient. 69.158.168.132 03:39, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Regal Star

Wikipedia is not for a game guide, this is an Encyclopedia dang it!

I think a game guide belongs on Wikibooks (where all the other game guides are going right now). http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Maple_Story

Wikipedia should stick to its goal of a Free Encyclopedia. Yes, we need a wiki game guide, but IMO, a game guide does not go in an Encyclopedia. --68.33.164.12 03:24, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Naming fads?

I'm considering a section on popular character name fragment fads such as "azn" (for Asian, although this is believed to frequently be used by non-Asians), "viet" (Vietnamese, also probably a false indicator of nationality), "SSJ" (Super Saiya-jin from the Dragonball manga/anime), "Sin" (assassin), and others. I'm a little hesitant since the same fads certainly crop up in other MMOGs - or any type of online community, for that matter. Let me know what you guys think and where (if at all) this kind of topic belongs. The Trashman 07:25, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

There doesn't seem to be any recent talk on the discussion page about the proposed cleanup. The page is going through contant change; the clean tag is inappropriate in this case.

Zakum Dungeon Quest

Because this quest is such a prominent part of other Maplestory versions, I added a section for it here. I'm basing this section mostly on memory, so some inconsistencies may exist. For that reason I did not go into much detail in the article. Cheers.

Personally I don't think its appropriate here. It may be a very popular quest which all people who play the game look forward to....but I think a more general party quest section is far more useful that one about the specific Zakum quest. I'm suggesting it be rewritten. --Prod-You 06:15, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

inappropriate tone

I'm tagging this page under inappropriate tone for the use of the second grammatical person. I know some of you might object, but use of it is highly unprofessional, rude and condescending to the reader because it assumes the reader wants to actually play it, rather than be informed about it. The use is so extensive I would have taken the time to clean it all, but I'm busy at the moment. I hope you can cleanup the second person references, make them in the third person ("players", perhaps). Then the tag can be removed. Where do you get the idea that Str and Int increases HP/MP upon lvl up anyways?

Where do you get the idea that Str and Int increases HP/MP upon lvl up anyways? Did you compare the stats of a pure-str and high-dex Warrior? Same thing for luk-less Mage. HP/MP increments are based on the class and the skills. — Comment by 72.142.162.31 moved from main page by fnfd 05:20, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, it doesn't even work with a mage/warrior. It needs to be tested with beginners, which shouldnt be too bad. I guess I'll try it in a few days to figure out whether or not its true. Make two chars, note hp/mp at level one, go pure str with char that has less hp, int with other one. -- Prod-You 05:26, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Pure INT wizards/clerics only have about 150 more MP at level 50 than someone with a normal LUK build, so you might not notice any difference with a beginner. --PetteriH 10:38, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Wont that be assuming that everyone wants to stay as a beginner?
Well, if its true for a beginner, I'd think its fairly safe to assume its true in general. -- Prod-You 21:53, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
I already said look at the pure-str and high-dex Warriors and luk-less Mages. Then you go say if it works for Beginners it works for all classes.
Plus, you said "Well, it doesn't even work with a mage/warrior."
I dont get your reasoning.
Hmmm, you're right. What i meant to say is, with warriors and mages, they have the skills that increase mp/hp and its better if those aren't included in consideration since results would only apply to those two classes. Anywayz, until its at least tested with beginners i dont think theres a point to arguing. Oh, and to sign your comments, put four tilde's (~) at the end, just easier to see whos commenting rather than checking history. -- Prod-You 00:28, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Basically, MapleStory Monsters contained an extensive list of monsters. At some point in time, this list of monsters was removed from that article, and crossed to the sister-project, Wikibooks, leaving the MapleStory Monsters page deprecated with only a small amount of information in it. I am suggesting that this paragraph be merged into MapleStory, and that MapleStory Monsters be redirected to MapleStory. Jude(talk, contribs) 11:43, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
But like you said, it contains very little information, so i just suggest deleting MapleStory Monsters and keeping Maplestory the wait it is, with the wikibooks link. --69.30.175.59 17:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
