PUNJABI!

Please do not remove the punjabi scripts because it is relavent to peoples names because they are not english peoples. Thanks you --Rajendra Singh (talk) 12:00, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Quoting from WP:INDICSCRIPT, "There is community consensus that the lead sentence of an article should not contain any regional or Indic language script. It is suggested that IPA be used for help with pronunciation. For details, refer to this RfC: Native languages in lead."
As you can see, this is a Wikipedia-wide consensus, not specific to this article.—indopug (talk) 16:25, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

POV issues

There are various POV issues in this article. We need reliable sources to call Left parties as 'Anti American'. The article states 'Sonia Gandhi unexpectedly relinquished the premiership to Manmohan Singh'.How can it be 'unexpectedly' when Manmohan was the leader of opposition till 2004.--Naveed (talk) 15:28, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Manmohan Singh was(and still) in Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi was in Lok Sabha. If the opposition wins usually the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha becomes the PM. I have not gone in detail of the article but is there no source whihc says that Sonia Gandhi relinquished unexpectedly ?--sarvajna (talk) 16:06, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Well if it is for the lead then yes it was a surprise to everyone when Singh's name was announced.--sarvajna (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Here's Mark Tully on the subject: "In May 2004, when the Congress returned to power, Sonia Gandhi was expected to become prime minister but to universal surprise declined to accept the post, nominating instead her chief adviser Manmohan Singh"[1], and an entire issue of the Outlook, speaking of Sonia's "sacrifice".—indopug (talk) 16:26, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok I think that was my mistake, Thanks for the clarification.--Naveed (talk) 07:04, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Singh was first elected to the upper house of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, in 1991[15] by the legislature of the state of Assam, and was re-elected in 1995, 2001, 2007 and 2013. 120.58.184.77 (talk) 06:02, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

GA criteria

I just saw this one pop up as a GA nom and I wanted to point out a few minor issues before its review. Per WP:REALTIME, words like "recently" should be revised, and per WP:WTW, words like "claimed" should be revised (these are under criterion 1b). Also under 1b, the lead is five paragraphs, where a maximum of 4 are generally allowed per WP:LEAD. Lastly, there seem to be quite a few one-sentence paragraphs in the article, which should be rewritten per WP:LAYOUT (also 1b). Hope this helps! Thanks for your work on this important figure, and good luck with the nomination. -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:37, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

  • There also seems to be a copyright issue created by this series of edits [2]; a quotation from the BBC is included almost word-for-word, but Suri deleted the quotation marks. Will fix this now. My impression, though, is that this may be a candidate for a quick-fail until more substantive work is done to prepare the article for GA. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:12, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Edit Request: Expand the 15th Lok Sabha Section

The section under 15th Lok Sabha is incomplete, while the 14th Lok Sabha being given so much of space. There is no mention of the scandals taken place in Manmohan Singh's regime. Here is a compilation of them: 1) Commonwealth games scandal, 2) 2G spectrum, 3) ISRO, Antrix-Devas deal, 4)Cash for votes scandal, 5) 2012 Indian coal mining controversy, 6) Scorpene Deal scam, 7) Tatra Truck scandal, 8) Coal file related to coal scam missing , and many more.

The above scandals have taken place during UPA II regime with Manmohan as Prime Minister. Scams are like coal scam, file missing, Antrix-Devas, Cash for votes, 2G spectrum have direct bearing on Manmohan Singh because a) he was the incharge of coal ministry department during scam of coal, b) He survived his govt by bribing the votes during cash for votes, c) He defended A. Raja, the prime accused in 2G spectrum and approved the allocation, and declined to appear before PAC, JPC, CBI. Not only this, he defended the scams citing coalition compulsion and running the government. Being an economist himself, India' economy in in shambles with inflation continously rising since 2009. Thus they consist an important part of BLP of Manmohan Singh. It's so much surprising that it has not been included in this article. Media is continuously reporting about government headed by Manmohan Singh as the most corrupt government since independence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.212.144.141 (talk) 04:43, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Should it not be 14th prime minister Sais72 (talk) 07:06, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Even his official bio-data on pmindia.nic.in states it as 14th prime minister. We should change this to 14th (Gulzari Lal Nanda is counted as the second prime minister). Sais72 (talk) 07:04, 27 January 2014 (UTC) [1]

The pmindia.nic.in is but one source. On the whole, sources are inconsistent. But what I've noticed is that while they may call Singh the 14th PM, nobody ever refers to Lal Bahadur Shastri as India's third prime minister. Thus, IMO it is best to maintain the status quo (because a change here would mean changing every post-Nehru PM).—indopug (talk) 16:15, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

The word puppet to be removed as its a personal opinion and not a fact.

Please change the following :- In 2004, when the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) came to power, Sonia Gandhi was to be the Prime Minister of India but according to the Constitution She would not be made, so she choose ManMohan Singh as a puppet who can run the government on behalf of Sonia Gandhi

To read as In 2004, when the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) came to power, ManMohan Singh was chosen by the party unanimously, and was to be the PM to run the government.

Please add the following to the second paragraph in the section 'Public image' -

Singh received the World Statesman Award in 2010. Henry Kissinger described Singh as "a statesman with vision, persistence and integrity", and praised him for his "leadership, which has been instrumental in the economic transformation underway in India." According to William Joseph Burns, "There could truly be no better choice, and no better model of what integrity and statesmanship are all about on the world stage. A man of even temperament, and remarkable modesty and humility, Prime Minister Singh has demonstrated clear vision and steely determination as a leader, bringing great benefit to India and to the rest of the world."

There is nothing wrong with your request that I can see - though this is not within my area of expertise. There is currently a large backlog in the edit request queue (158 requests as of this writing). You will just have to be patient. Someone will get around to your request. Alternatively: why not register an account? Once it becomes autoconfirmed, you could then make the edit yourself. --Elektrik Fanne 11:54, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Manmohan Singh/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: Buidhe (talk · contribs) 10:40, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the article is not close to meeting the GA criteria at this time.

  • Prose: The prose could use improvement. In particular, there are many short paragraphs that should be combined into a more cohesive whole.
  • Verifiability: Considerable parts of the article are not referenced, for example most of the "Degrees and posts held" section.
  • MOS: There are several issues here. First, there are some bare links in the references. Many of them contain errors or have incorrect capitalization. Also, you have image sandwiching which is against MOS:IMAGELOC. The lede is too long per WP:LEDE, and does not adhere to WP:CITELEAD. The infobox also does not adhere to WP:INFOBOXCITE.
  • Coverage: I'm not in the best position to evaluate this, but considering that he was the head of government for one of the largest countries in the world, I would expect that there may be aspects that are neglected in this article (only 24kb readable prose, see Article size).
  • NPOV: Again, I am not be the best person to evaluate this, but statements like "Singh will not be conducting research but instead interacting with students and departments to inspire them." lead me to wonder if parts of the article may be too promotional.

These issues are above and beyond what is expected to be accomplished in a GA review. I recommend that the nominator fix these issues and renominate. buidhe (formerly Catrìona) 10:40, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
