Talk:Manitoba Reading Association
This article was nominated for deletion on 2 June 2017. The result of the discussion was WP:BOLD redirect to International Literacy Association. |
This article was tagged for speedy deletion under section a7 of the criteria for speedy deletion but a reviewing administrator or uninvolved experienced editor (DESiegel (talk)) declined the request on the basis that: "This provincial council has over 500 members" is a claim of significance. This article should not be tagged again for speedy deletion under the same criterion and, unless a valid, separate speedy deletion basis exists, further attempts at deleting this article should be made via the proposed deletion process (prod) if uncontroversial, or the article taken to articles for deletion (AfD) for debate on the merits. Note: this template should be removed once the associated article has survived an AfD debate; or has been significantly changed such that further speedy deletion requests are unlikely. |
Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because its a long standing professional body responsible for literacy in a whole province not just a city. It runs educational programs, public literacy programs, and hosts conferences. Also a provincial affiliate of an organization with its own article. --Legacypac (talk) 17:14, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Legacypac, please note that WP:BRANCH says: "As a general rule, the individual chapters of national and international organizations are usually not considered notable enough to warrant a separate article – unless they are substantially discussed by reliable independent sources that extend beyond the chapter's local area.". Thus " provincial affiliate of an organization with its own article" is actually a reason to delete, or better, redirect. DES (talk) 21:59, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Ok fair enough. I was not aware of that policy. The organization ... has approximately 70,000 members, and more than 1,250 councils and affiliates, worldwide" which includes the Manitoba version. I'll go ahead with the redirect. Thanks Legacypac (talk) 22:04, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
