Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because its a long standing professional body responsible for literacy in a whole province not just a city. It runs educational programs, public literacy programs, and hosts conferences. Also a provincial affiliate of an organization with its own article. --Legacypac (talk) 17:14, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Legacypac, please note that WP:BRANCH says: "As a general rule, the individual chapters of national and international organizations are usually not considered notable enough to warrant a separate article – unless they are substantially discussed by reliable independent sources that extend beyond the chapter's local area.". Thus " provincial affiliate of an organization with its own article" is actually a reason to delete, or better, redirect. DES (talk) 21:59, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok fair enough. I was not aware of that policy. The organization ... has approximately 70,000 members, and more than 1,250 councils and affiliates, worldwide" which includes the Manitoba version. I'll go ahead with the redirect. Thanks Legacypac (talk) 22:04, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
