Moelgg, not Mölgg

The right spelling is Moelgg, not Mölgg, as you can see also in the German version of his website [1]. Writing Mölgg is an example of hypercorrection, in this case.--Castagna (talk) 18:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

To rest the case if the name is Mölgg or Moelgg I contacted the official homepage of the two skiers: www.moelgg.com and asked them about the correct spelling: Today the answer arrived:

Der korrekte Name ist „Mölgg“. Aus Kommunikationsgründen (Homepage), und weil die offiziellen FIS-Listen den Namen „Moelgg“ benutzen und grundsätzlich keine Umlaute zulassen, erscheint in der Öffentlichkeit sehr häufig der Name Moelgg.

Also, wenn wir das Ganze ein für alle Mal klären wollen, teilen Sie bitte folgendes Wikipedia mit:

Such a personal mail is not an official source. As long as they themselves write their name in such a fashion on their site (there's plenty of South-Tyrol Italian skiers and people in general whose name is correctly spelled in German here, in World Cup etc, so one wonders why the two brothers should make such a voluntary change) I think it's better to keep the normal spelling. Further examples:

• when the Province of Bolzano-Bozen sends out press statements in Ladin they use the name Mölgg[2]
• when the province sends out press statements in Italian[3][4] the name Mölgg is used too
• his ski sponsor uses the name Mölgg in its English site[5]
• also the local newspaper in Ladin uses the name Mölgg[6]

I am moving the pages anew, because as the webmaster of Mölggs homepage said: "for communication reasons often the name „Moelgg“ is used." and "The correct name is „Mölgg“". --noclador (talk) 06:36, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure that re-moving is a good idea. If the e-mail is correct, the "-oe-" form seems a voluntary change; a lot of Italian person from Alto Adige/Südtirol go on using the "-ö-" form, also in their website; for example, Armin Zöggeler: [7] (and so Austrian as Schönfelder, from Liechtenstein as Büchel, Swiss as Fränzi Aufdenblatten...). I think we should respect this choice (and our policies: Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use the most easily recognized name).--Castagna (talk) 14:30, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
