[edit]Information on the Mamertines is scarce because their part in history was so small. However, I have dug up as many pages on the Internet as possible and studied the relative parts on the Mamertines in any Punic Wars book I come across. Thus, my knowledge on their history is rather strong. I have put most, if not all of my knowledge into this article for anyone wishing to find out more about the adventurous mercenaries of Sicily. I want this to be the most detailed article on the Mamertines for this great site so please put in anything you think is missing. Cheers.
Shame theres not much info about them, but one things for certain, they have one hell of a name.
- "After the First Punic War, the Mamertines are lost to history, although their name was not quite forgotten in the ancient world since "Mamertine wine" from the vineyards of north-eastern tip of Sicily was still known and enjoyed in the 1st century. It was the favourite of Julius Caesar and it was he who made it popular after serving it at a feast to celebrate his third consulship." — Is there a citation for this? Particularly the comment about Caesar? Cjcaesar (talk) 16:08, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:MamS 017-42 ha.jpg
[edit]Image:MamS 017-42 ha.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
don´t be always so sure
[edit]on why the Romans helped Messana: That´s not so certain. Hoyos, for example, in his 1994 book, Unplanned wars, puts forward the view that Romans where not so uch concerned about Carthage at the time, instead suggesting that their move was initially directed against Syracuse, and being motivated by the possibilityof rich plunder. on historic topics in general: The only truth a good historian should know is the Socratic truth that, in fact, he doesn´t know anything. -- Mike F2 (talk) 22:49, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
