Sedum link
[edit]WARNING - the quotation referring to wildflowers I BELIEVE refers to Sedum stenopetalum, but I cannot be sure; I have linked to Sedum, but there is a chance that may be incorrect. Thmazing (talk) 22:02, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]It looks like this is the better sourced of the two stubs on this color. I think Corn (color) should be merged here. PaleAqua (talk) 22:23, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Personally, I've only ever heard of maize as a color, not corn. Thmazing (talk) 05:26, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've heard both terms for the grain. See [1] and [2]. Mostly I've heard the term applied to what is know as Indian corn. In some dialects of English corn also includes other grains. (see 3a of [3] and notice that it comes before 3b and 4.) PaleAqua (talk) 05:38, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I know all that. I just mean that I've never seen a crayon called 'corn.' Where I've lived we never call the grain maize, so it's the color and the grain gets to be corn. Thmazing (talk) 20:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah sorry read your comment backwards. Probably will give this a few more days then if no other comments just replace the Corn (color) page with a redirect here, and possibly bring over the coordinate free color box and picture. To be honest I've considered bring deletion request against both articles for notability or merging into a variations of yellow page if other such articles on yellows exists. PaleAqua (talk) 22:27, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Are there similar 'variations of [color]' page for other colors? Thmazing (talk) 21:00, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh: and incidentally, I'm opposed to closing down color pages. Although many--nearly all--are quite short, I think it's helpful to give them their own pages. Specifically, I occasionally adds cites (like those here) to show usage, and I don't think that would work as well on a combined page. Also, if similar pages don't exist for other portions of the spectrum, I think the conversation will need to be taken up to a higher level before proceeding. Thmazing (talk) 21:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Incidentally, I think merging corn and maize is fine, though. I've been looking around and I still haven't found anyone using the word 'corn' as a color. Thmazing (talk) 21:04, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Similar pages already exists for other colors in the spectrum, variations of green was the first of them, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Color/Archive 4#Merging_minor_colors_together and Special:PrefixIndex/Variations of. Considering the small number of people active in Wikipedia:WikiProject color more input is always welcome. My biggest concerns is that the color articles don't mislead, and are properly sourced and notable. I've been slowly (slowly is a bit of an understatement to be honest) and some what randomly looking through the articles for different colors and trying to verify what's there.
