Pancha Tattva
[edit]The following introduction was inserted into the beginning of this article without discussion.
- Mahābhūta (or Pancha Tattva) are the the Classical Elements according to Dharmic Traditions: Buddha Dharma, Sikh Dharma, Jain Dharma and Sanatana Dharma. There are many different names and enumerations of the four or five elements within these traditions; though, there is a marked commonality.
I've reverted it primarily for the following reasons:
- It does not in any way summarize the article's current contents (per WP guidelines)
- It adds terminology — "Dharmic Traditions" (which it then seemingly attempts to legitimize by enumerating various religions to which the word "Dharma" appended) — which to the best of my knowledge is neither accepted nor recognized as valid by scholars or validated by other major WP articles
I welcome serious, sincere, civil, constructive and intelligible discussion about this. My recommendation is that if someone wants to write an article on panca tattva (elements) then they should do so. This is not that article. Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 17:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've modified the intro & sectional headers today to allow for Vedic/Hindu content under the (provisional?) sectional header of "Hinduism." For starters, I simply included a MWD definition for "mahabhuta" under "Hinduism." I'll try to add some more info (e.g., block quotes from traditional texts) as time allows. In the "Hinduism" section, I've also identified WP The 36 tattvas article as the "Main article," but I suspect this might be problemmatic; so feel to change (e.g., to simply "See," etc.). I hope this helps towards beginning to address the fact that "mahabhuta" is a Vedic/Hindu/other term as well as Buddhist/Pali term. Also, FWIW, I'm still open to other options regarding this space's use, e.g., moving the Hindu content to Mahabhuta (Hinduism), the Buddhist content to Mahabhuta (Buddhism) and then making this either a disambiguation page or a "summary page". Removing a section on Classical Elements in India
[edit]Should this section be deleted? Four_elements#Classical_elements_in_India And if so: Are there valuble information there, that should be added to this Mahābhūta-article, before deleting the section? Hakontdal (talk) 22:29, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
