Recent removals of Imperial Majesty -related material from article
[edit]Several users, both anonymous and registered, have recently removed some or all of the material related to this ship's charter to Imperial Majesty Cruise Line from this article. As the removed sections are referenced from websites filling Wikipedia's reliability and verifiability guidelines for references, these edits have been reverted. Any such edits will continue to be reverted until, or unless, the editors can provide a source filling the aforementioned guidelines that clearly states the ship will not be chartered to Imperial Majesty or at the very least explain their reasons for these removals here in public.
At the moment, in addition to the websites referenced to in this article, there are at least three other websites ([1], [2], [3]) I could find by a quick search that state the Bahamas Celebration is under charter to Imperial Majesty. On the other hand I could find no websites that would have stated this is not the case.
As at least one of the editors involved in the removals of material from this article has claimed to be a representative of Celebration Cruise Holdings. If this is indeed true, I strongly recommend that you get in touch with the editors of the websites listed above as well as the websites used as references for the material under dispute and ask them to rectify the information on their sites. We only reprint what has already been written elsewhere. If you are who you say you are and the information here really is misinformation, get to the source of that misinformation and ask them to correct their websites. Once the information elsewhere in the web is corrected, the Wikipedia article will naturally be rectified in accordance with our principles. — Kjet (talk · contribs) 23:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- You have made a direct reference to my blog claiming that I stated IMCL will be operating the BAHAMAS CELEBRATION. The new operating company name has not yet been chosen, nor announced. IMCL will not be operating BAHAMAS CELEBRATION. It has been brought to my attention by the ship's owners that you have referenced my site as a source for this information. If you choose to state the ship is being operated by IMCL, which you will soon learn is not the case (if you do not care to believe one of your sources), then you must remove the reference to my site making such a claim. Please go back and re read my blog to confirm I have never made this statement about the ship's charter to IMCL.Aureol777 (talk) 01:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- First off, I have upmost respect to you as an author and expert in ocean liners and cruise ships. However, if you would re-read the article under dispute you would notice that in no point is your blog used as a reference for IMCL being the operator of the Bahamas Celebration. All claims to that effect are sourced either from Micke Asklander's Fakta om Fartyg wesbite or the news page Martin Cox's Maritime Matters (the latter of which now appears to have removed the info under dispute here). The only sections referencing your expertly written blog are the ones related to the ship's reconstruction into a cruise ship and her projected service entry date.
- It is and never was my intention as one of the contributors to this article to purposefully spread misinformation on Wikipedia, certainly not of the type that could potentially be harmful to the owners of the Bahamas Celebration. However, at the time when this article was updated with the info about IMCL all available sources seemed to be in agreeance that she was under charter to them. Taking your words for their face value and based on the changes Mr. Cox has made to his website is enough to convince me that the ship is indeed not (yet, anyway) under charter to IMCL. However, I have to point out that had an attempt been made earlier to explain the removals of information from the article instead of unexplained deletions, this matter could have been brought to a satisfactory conclusion earlier (this of course might not relate to you personally - I've no idea if you were one of the anonymous users who have been making these deletions earlier).
- In any case, as said I'm personally at least satisfied that the ship is not under charter to IMCL and have no problems to editing the article accordingly. However I am not the whole of Wikipedia and as we still have multiple sources stating she is under charter to IMCL and none that explicitly state that this is not the case, I cannot guarantee there wouldn't be further problems with this matter. — Kjet (talk · contribs) 20:58, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Hello, Kjet. I am new to Wikipedia and apologize if my actions were not done in the proper fashion. I didn't realize there was a particular etiquette in making deletions or changes but when it was brought to my attention that the information was not correct, I took immediate action. When my changes were undone, I came to this board to state my reasons for making them. Thank you for leaving the alterations intact. Also, thank you for your incredible efforts to share information about so many ships to Wikipedia visitors. You clearly have a great passion for the subject and it is a great service you offer. I hope there will be an announcement soon about the new operation of BAHAMAS CELEBRATION. Thanks again, 67.49.250.91 (talk) 09:42, 18 February 2009 (UTC) Peter
- People here (myself included) tend to be quite strict about about removals of referenced material, as about 95% of the time it's someone who think's it's funny to vandalise Wikipedia. In any case, I'm glad that this particular case was brought to a satisfactory conclusion. Thank you also for your kind words on my contributions here. — Kjet (talk · contribs) 16:14, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
How do I comment on this? One of the users was me, and I referenced the official homepage for celebration cruise lines, which will indeed become the new operator as you can easily see on their homepage www.bahamaships.com. They are not Imperial Majesty Cruise Lines, but a follow up company using the same offices, same phone numbers and probably the same personel as well. All the users stating that Bahamas Celebration would be operated by IMCL were obviously mistaken. Since the new homepage only recently went online that is understandable but now this Wikipedia-page states information that is incorrect. Ksll
Opening paragraph needs work
[edit]The opening paragraph of this article is out of date and is inconsistent with the final paragraph. In particular, the second line is outdated; the ship is currently cruising twice weekly from Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau (I just got married on her last week!). However, I'm not experienced enough an editor to remove / replace a line that's also associated with a footnote and hope that a more experienced editor will read this and take appropriate action.
