MC Eiht spelling justification

[edit]

The stage name intentionally leaves out the letter "g" in "eight" to convey that Eiht is not a G, i.e. as a symbolic repudiation of the gangsta ethos. Where does this come from? Do we have a source for this? The above statement would actually seem to stem from some of DJ Quik's lyrics where he pans the missing letter "g" in his diss track Dollaz + Sense:

Givin' your set a bad name with your misspelt name.
E, I, H, T, now should I continue?
Yeah, you left out the G 'cause the G ain't in you.

I've only seen one interview from 2004 in which MC Eiht has responded to questions about why he left out the "g" (http://thugradio.net/mceihtinterview.html):

D: How did you get the name MC Eiht?

The EIHT stands for: Experienced in hood tactics(source, he told me) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.30.223.51 (talk) 03:50, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MC Eiht: Comin' from the era I came from everybody was Rap Master This or Fresh This or Kid Ice This or whatever so I just wanted to be different. KRS-ONE was the only rapper at the time symbolizin' himself with a number by sayin' he was number one. So I basically just came up with MC Eiht just tryin' to be different. You know 8Ball, .38 strap just tryin' to relate the number eight to the hood orientation of it. You know we sold 8Ball, 8-tracks, we packed .38 straps, so MC Eiht.
D: Is there any reason you left out the "G"?
MC Eiht: No reason.

I am going to remove that statement until we have a source that can prove otherwise. 210.84.41.157 (talk) 08:57, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biography

[edit]

MC Eiht biography needs added. A lot of info about his life and early rap can be found in Vladtv interviews. I'm completely new to Wikipedia by the way. EihtHype4Life (talk) 00:14, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject assessments

[edit]

I have added and assessed the WikiProject Crime banner and assessed for the WikiProject Organized crime banner primarily on the basis of of this artist's musical genres including gangsta rap and the article being assigned to the Gangsta rappers and Crips categories. Aside from his art, there is little indication in the article that this artist has been directly involved in any sort of crime or criminal organization. Apart from this artist's genre of music-making, there is nothing in the article content to indicate why this article should be of interest to these assigned WikiProjects. If you are aware of additional sources of information not included in the article that further support these WikiProject assignments, please identify those source(s) and add that additional information to the article. If you disagree with this assessment for these WikiProjects, please explain your disagreement and justify why these WikiProjects should be removed, if you do remove them. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:30, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
