Major edit
[edit]I deleted the following when I replaced it with text translated from the more complete Spanish-language article:
González received his first international cap May 1, 1979 in a friendly match against Mexico. He would go on to receive a total of 48 caps for the El Salvador team, leading them to the 1982 FIFA World Cup, and scoring a total of 40 goals for the team.
While it provides a few more specific details about his career, it seemed excessive to list off his exact accomplishments when they appear in the table next to the article. Also, the Spanish-language article did not contain any references, so I couldn't fact-check some of the things which were mentioned, much less cite them.
- I forgot to sign my previous post, sorry. I also went ahead and added that paragraph from above under an International Career subheading.Isaiahcambron 01:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Birth
[edit]When was Gonzalez born? According to this he was born in 1958, but the Spanish-language article lists 1957. Which was it? A look around the wider web gave no clue as Google now takes Wikipedia's word for it.Isaiahcambron 01:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Nickname
[edit]The article translates "El Mágico" as "The Wizard." I think a most close translation would be "The Magic One." (Wizard is "Mago" in Spanish.) Leus (talk) 16:08, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I was reading this article and I thought the same. Both English words "wizard" and "magician" translate as "mago" in Spanish. "El Mágico" literally means "The Magic One", as Leus suggest. In an interesting note, on TV in El Salvador, people called Zinedine Zidane "the magician" (el mago) and would comment about the contrast of these nicknames by jokingly saying that Zidane would do magic but El Mágico was magic himself. --GerardoAUrbina (talk) 16:31, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
