- Luigi De Magistris (cardinal) → Luigi De Magistris
- Luigi de Magistris (politician) → Luigi de Magistris
- Luigi de Magistris → (deleted to make way for page move)
– Wikipedia prefers natural disambiguation in forming article titles, i.e. any extra explanatory terms should only be used where necessary. In this case, both men have similar names, identical except for the capitalisation of the second word ("De" or "de"). As this is sufficient to distinguish between the cardinal and the politician, I propose that both of these pages should be renamed to remove the parenthetical disambiguation in the current titles. The necessary disambiguation afterwards can be achieved through the use of hatnotes at the top of the page, e.g. "This article is about the cardinal. For the politician, see Luigi de Magistris". Note that there is currently a disambiguation page at Luigi de Magistris, which will no longer be necessary after the page moves. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 17:14, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Note: if this request is granted, Luigi de Magistris (disambiguation) must also be deleted. PI Ellsworth ed. put'r there 17:54, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, don't think the change in capitalization helps disambiguate. I don't think the everyday user would be able to off the top of their head guess which page is which when looking.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:00, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose because the distinction between their names is insufficient to serve the best interests of a less-than-expert user. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 20:56, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose—I agree with Ortizesp and Bmclaughlin9—but in my opinion it's always better in a situation with only two people with the same name that we choose one as a primary topic, because that way those actually searching for him won't have to click through a disambiguation page. Alternative proposal: Based on pageviews move Luigi de Magistris (politician) to Luigi de Magistris over the current disambiguation page and put a hatnote to the other one. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 10:09, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose alternative, though I think it’s better than the original proposal. But consider how very few people ever encounter the disamb page based on these page views. Better a few people encounter the disamb page than far more face the distraction of a hatnote IMHO. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 16:10, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. Anyone facing a searchbox choice between "de" and "De" has only a 50/50 chance of picking the right one. Better a few people encounter the disamb page than editors unwittingly link to the wrong article. Such errors rarely get found and fixed, and degrade the encyclopedia. I've seen WP:PTOPICs with over a hundred bad links-in. Narky Blert (talk) 15:56, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
